Underbody Coating

Under Body Coating - It is the process of applying the protective layer to the under body of the car to prevent from the wear & tear and also from the corrosions. It helps to protect the internal part of the underbody which in not to be easily accessible but has a chance to get corroded.

  • Everyone has more concentrate on their car performance and about the outer body looks and conditions. No one likes to have their car with dents, scratches and performance related issues. So that most of the people forget to care about the underneath of their car and also we can say that they have less awareness on this things.
  • On the other hand car manufactures are applying the cost cutting concept on their cars to provide it to the customer with low cost, so that they eliminate the Under body coating. Underbody coating is in the out of the visible area, so that the car buyer are not able to ensure that whether the car has underbody coating or not.
  • At the early stage of the car manufacturing, the under body of the car has made up of metals. So that it can be easily corroded by the rust formation. Now a days car under body has made up of tough materials, aluminium and polycarbonate materials etc., and also rust resistant ingredients are added to the materials. This materials can more withstand against the corrosion formation.

Underbody Coating Process:

  • Underbody Pre Inspection - Before applying the underbody coating, the car underneath should be inpected very well to identify flaws by keeping the car on the ramp.
  • Underbody Cleaning - After underbody pre inspection, the grease and the dirt should be removed from the underneath properly. Spraying the high quality degreaser and allow some times to soak and clean it by the fibre cloth.
  • Underbody Coating - The unwanted components and the critical components has to be covered by the thin film to abscond from the underbody coating. Initially primer is applied to the underbody, it act as the basic layer. Then the paint is sprayed to the underbody for creating the layer of underbody coating.
  • Final Inspection - Finally the underbody coating thickness and areas should be inpect to ensure that in a proper requirement standards.

Types of Underbody Coatings:

  • Rubberized Underbody Coating - It is the easiest and best way of protecting the underneath of the body. It helps to prevent from moisture, dust, rust and dents. It has the rubbery finish. If the underbody has to be work, then this coating can be easily removed by using the underbody coating removal spray.
  • Asphalt Based Underbody Coating - For some specific and standard vehicles, special kind of underbody coating treatments are suggested to prevent the underneath of the vehicle efficiently. Larger Vehicle like trucks and heavy machineries, asphalt based underbody coating is used to prevent the underneath as more efficiently from the heavy stones, moisture.
  • Wax based Underbody Coating - It is applied to the underbody of the vehicle, after some times it gets dried and then it becomes resistant to the moisture, salt and acids. It is the cheapest method compare to the other underbody coating methods, but this has to be reapply again and again certain period of time(after every one years).
  • Polyurethane Underbody Coating - It help to bonds the fractures, breaks, splits in the underbody of the vehicle and also prevent the undercarriage of the vehicle from the corrosion.

Advantages of Underbody Coating:

  • Rust Prevention - If the vehicle is continuously using in a near by sea shore or in a highly humidity regions, then the vehicle has more chance to get corroded. Here the Underbody coating plays the major role to prevent the vehicle from the corrosion.
  • Noise Absorbtion - When the underbody coating is applied with more thickness which results to eliminate the noise from the environment to the cabin and also absorbs the kind of vibrations.
  • Vehicle Life Span - The underbody coating is not only helps to prevent the undercarriage of the vehicle, it also helps to prevent the vehicle's engine and transmissions. So that the vehicle has more life span.

Disadvantages of Underbody Coating:

  • For better result, it has to be again reapplied for every 4 to 5 years.
  • It gives best result when applied on the new cars compare to the older one. It means that the underbody coating is not more useful to prevent the vehicle, if the corrosion has already presents in the vehicle.
  • Little amount of weightage will be added to the vehicle.
