Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Draft Analysis on a Fan Cover

Report - Tooling Axis Creation and Draft Analysis:
Tooling Axis Creation:

  • When we are going to design the components, Initially we should findout the tooling axis which is nothing but the mold opening/closing direction of the component.
  • Some Simpler component we can findout the tooling axis by visually. But If incase of the component will be under complex, we should follow some of the step to findout the tooling axis.

For This Component (Fan Cover), the following steps should be followed,

  • Creating the Dummy Tooling axis - Projecting the Boundaries of the component by using Boundary command and Disassemble it in a simpler curves. Then create the point at the centre of the curve. Using that point we can create the Dumming tooling axis by line command.
  • Projection of Intersecting Line - For this axis system has to be created at the center point which we created earlier. Using the intersect command along with zx plane in the axis system, We can project the intersection line on the component surface.
  • Bisecting Line Creation - To create the bisecting line, we should create the draft line along with the surface of the component by using the intersect line points at each end(x+ and x-). Then create the Bisecting line with these two draft lines using the line command. This bisecting line will be the tooling clearing axis in the x direction.

The same steps should do for the Y direction.

  • Then using the ouputs (Tooling Clearing Axis in X direction and Tooling Clearing Axis in Y direction) we can create the Tooling Axis using line command.
  • Finally Publish the Tooling Axis and the Class A Surface for easily access the outputs.

Draft Analysis:

  • Before going to analyse the draft we should ensure that View Mode Customization in Material mode.
  • The Draft Analysis can be done by using the Feature Draft Analysis command.
  • To analyse the draft, the compass should be drag and fix it in the tooling axis, click on the lock button which is in the feature draft analysis toolbar then click on the component surface.
Then the Draft result will be showcased by the comparison of different colours.
  • Green colour mentions that the draft angle is more than 2degree, Red colour mentions that the draft angle is 0 to 2 degree and Blue colour mentions that the draft angle is in Negative. In our case, the result will be showcased in green colour because of that it has more than 2degree draft angle.
  • Also we can measure the surface angle in the component by using Analysis Under Running Point Command.
  • This Draft analysis will be saved in the Model Tree when we click ok.
