Underbody Coating

Underbody Coating : It is dense cladding which is applied to prevent small stones that hit the underbody while travelling then the paint starts to chip and the corrosion begins.It is generally being applied once the ED spray is done it is usually spray or painted either by robotic arm or manually on the chassis,it is applied on lower part because only that region is usually contact with water and other substance that can damage the body while the car is in motion.Its advantages are anti corrosion, absorbs resistance and it extends the car life.

Methods to apply :

1.) Spray : The spray is the most common method used by dealers. The spray consists of a tar-like substance that is applied to the undercarriage. It functions as a barrier for salt, moisture, and oxygen, which causes corrosion.

2.) Electronic : Removing the electrical current capacity of items underneath the vehicles is another method for applying to undercoat. A weak electric current circulates through the material, reducing the chances of rusting.

3.)Drip Oil Spray: If you want to do it yourself, then drip oil spray is the best option. This can be messy but incredibly effective at protecting the undercarriage. It covers every nook and corner of the chassis, forming a robust layer of protection.

4.) Dripless Oil Spray : Coming to the last option, the dripless oil spray. This waxy substance is applied to the body and undercarriage, forming a strong protective layer. It doesn’t take much time to dry; however, the layer can easily wear and tear than the other counter methods.

Types

• Rubberised underbody coating : Rubberized undercoating creates a protective barrier that seals out grit, grime and moisture that could otherwise corrode the metal components. This method is generally said to be the method best because it protects from corrosion and on the other side it is scratch resistant.The coating may also be used to protect wheel wells, quarter panels, interior sides of fenders, the underside of the hood, the bottom sides of floor pans and more. The rubberized undercoating also helps deaden noise, allowing for a more pleasant and quieter ride. The spray goes on as a textured black finish that resists chipping, abrasion, exterior rusting and weathering.

• Wax based Undercoating : The wax base is an effective and highly adhesive rust protection for treated and untreated undersides. A resistant protective coat forms once it has dried, which is resistant to weather, road salt and acids. Does not damage plastic, lacquer or rubber.The body wears this coating for less time, this type is mostly useful against the moisture.

• Asphalt based underbody Coating : This has larger protection than any other practices available, less amount of rubber is being coated to lesser the vibration produced between the parts. Applied on heavy vehicles for long durability, also we can paint over the body.It is a fast-drying agent based on bitumen, designed for the permanent protection of the car underbody against rust. After drying, the coating leaves a tightly adherent surface, giving good mechanical protection in different climatic conditions. It is characterized by excellent soundproofing properties . Only issue with this method is that it can’t be coated by any kind of lacquer system.

• Polyurethane underbody Coating : It closes the fracture by filling the material into it and the procedure to apply this is very easy and has a good protection and gets mixed with the metal by non iodized salts and moistures on the surfaace

• Heat Insulation: It insulates the interior of the car from extreme temperatures from beneath the vehicle providing a comfortable cabin experience.
• Anti-chipping property: If any stone hits the coating it does not get chipped away hence protects the underbody from exposure to water.

Cons :

• It wont do anything to already corrosion parts
• Has to do repeatedly once in a 3 4 years
• By applying this through third party warranty may longer be in used
