Underbody Coating
Under Body Coating:
An underbody coating in vehicle is usually a dense cladding form applied to the undercarriage in an uniform manner. Normally, it is coated by using spraying or by applying paints on it. The undercarriage coating is mainly used to protect vehicle from the particles which are thrown by the road. It protects vehicle from the damaging forces such as corrosion and moisture. A periodical way of coating can prevent the vehicle undercarriage from the further rusting or damages.

Primarily the underbody is cleaned, degreased clearly. then a protective coating is well painted or sprayed which acts as a hard layer of coating. this hard layer dries at an faster rate. This protective coating has some properties like paintable, rubberized, non toxic, chip resistant, heat and cold resistant.

Uses of Under Body Coating:
1. Prevents Paint from Chipping:
Chipping on the underbody occurs when some debris hits on it while driving . This may lead to removal of paint. Hence it should be a thick layer of coating to prevent from chipping. Usually pitshops offers a underboady coating inspection.

2. Improved resale value:
To fix the better resale value of a car, it should be rust free. Usually the mechanic checks the underbody to calculate about the car's maintainence. A regular inspection of car will retain the better value for it.
3. Reduces noise:
Under body coating leads to less noise which results in easy, smooth driving experience. Due to the strong hit of debris, crackling noise arises which will not affect the smooth noiseless driving once the under body is well coated.
4. Protection of components:
This prevents rust forming on the outer layer of the under body. Especially when the vehicles are in the nearby coastal regions, the body easily gets reacted to the high saline environment. This thick coating acts as an inert to its reaction.

Types of Underbody Coating:
The four major types of underbody coating are mentioned and explained below.
1. Rubberized coating:
Rubberized coating is very safe to use on wheel wells, panels and it has a soft rubbery finish. It is a easy pattern to applyand considered as a best protective coating for vehicle. It forms a cushion surface against moisture, rust, dents .
It is very easy to apply with no fuss. A neat finish can be easily made with this coating. Once it dries it forms a soft rubbery finish which satisfies the customer.
2.Wax / Paraffin Coating:
In this kind, the wax or paraffins are applied softly on the surface. It is then lead to cure hard to form a thick layer. This curing process is done either by brushing or by spraying. The wax coating however is not well suited for the long time benefits. It has a positive character of good repellant against moisture. The pitfall of wax is it doesnot sticks strongly with the metallic surface. But for a temporary solution it is within the budget.
3.Asphalt Coating:
This coating comprises of Asphalt material along with some rubber material which is set up firmly on the metal surface. This coating is mainly used for the heavy road use vehicles. It has a higher degree of protection to the components. It uses a little amount of rubber for the noise free driving experience. This coating has a high life of about two to three years even on high usage of vehicle. It also provides additional durability as it is the strongest and thickest coating. The major pitfall is its hardening time. It take quite long time to cure and harden. Also it doesnot have well aesthetic look on the vehicles. Henceforth it is used in lorries, buses, trucks etc.
4. Polyurethane coating:
This coating uses the chemical polyurethane which repells salt, moisture and protects the unoxidised metal from rust. It has a high withstand and durability irrespective of weather conditions. It is used in all major ideal major vehicles. This coating has a long life span against rusting, wear and tear. It has an easy process to apply on the surface and also vwery easy to remove. While coating it fills the cracks and rusty spots on the belly of car and thus it protects the underlying metals. It can be painted easily.
