Underbody Coating
- Underbody Coating:
The underbody is the part of the car which acts as the floor of the cabin. This part is exposed to the ground and the atmosphere. This part is exposed to dust, rocks, water and many other elements. Due to oxidation the underbody can erode and rust causing damage to the car, and making it dangerous to drive or reduce the life span. This can be prevented by applying an underbody coating. Some car maufacturers apply coating in the factory itself, while some don't. The underbody coating also helps in reducing the NVH (Noise and Vibration Harshness) levels of the car. The underbody coating also increases the life span of the car.
- Without the coating the underbody gets rusted:

- After applying underbody coating:

- There are various types of underbody coating:
- Rubberized coating:
This coating is easy to apply. This can be also applied on the wheel well. This underbody coating also provides sound dampaning. This coating after setting forms a rubberized layer on the cars underbody. This coating provides protection from rocks, dust, moisture and any other elements.
2. Wax/Parafin based underbody coating:
This is the cheapest underbody coating that can be applied. They need to be applied once in every year because they wear off easily. This coating repels water and ice and has a good deflection property. This coating can be purchased while buying a new vehicle, or applied using professional help.
3. Water based underbody coating:
This underbody coating is very easy to apply, it set very quickly. This underbody coating forms a thin protective layer on the undercarriage of the car. This coating wears off very quickly
4. Asphalt based underbody coating:
This coating is the most durable of all the above coating. This caoting is also the expensive, this coating is mostly used on heavy duty vehicles. This coating is the thickest coating.
- Advantages of underbody coating:
- Sound Insulation: The underbody coating provides sound insulation
- Anti-Chipping: The underbody coating prevents the cars underbody and many other exposed parts from being damaged due to rocks.
- Anti-corrosion: The coating prevents the corrosion of the underbody and the exposed part.
- Extends Lifespan: The underbody coating expands the life span of the car.
- Disadvantages:
- Expensive: The underbody coating is expensive. The underbody coating has to be applied once every year, this make it expensive.
