Underbody Coating

UNDER-BODY COATING

Under body coatings are those coating which are used to prevent car bodies aganist rust and the corrosions. this is not only required in the mansoon season but in hot and humid climatic conditions. seals on the undebelly parts have gotten a lot tighter and more effective at keeping out dust and moisture but there are other factors to be considered poor roads, rocks getting thrown from the tires and denting the metals, and corrosion from road salt in the winter all play a huge part in the damage or decays of underbelly.

The difference between under body cpating and the rust protections are rust protection generally goes inside your vehicle , while undercoating is used for  protection outside the vehicle. and there are variety of coating available.

MODERN UNDER-BODY COATING PROCESS

The under boady coating process consist of 5 steps

  • PRETREATMENT ;In pre treatment removes and cleans excess metal and forms an appropriate  surface structure enabling boanding of a corrotion protection layer.
  • ELECTRODEPOSITION ; The next step is the electrodeposition of anti corrosion or rust prevention layer.
  • RUST PROOF MATERIAL ;A sealer like poly vinyl chloride (pvc) is applied for anti corrosion , elimination of water leaks and minimization of chipping and vibrational noice.
  • APPLYING PRIMER ; A primer is then applied to promote adhesion between the surface and the basecoat .  It also imparts a smoother surface for subsequent layers and has anti- chipping properties
  • TOP COAT ;Finally the topcoats that include a bascoat and clear coat are applied they provide surface properties that are sought after , including colour, appearance, gloss, smoothness, and weather resistance.

PURPOSE OF UNDER-BODY COATING

  • Stone chip prevention
  • Improve driving comfort
  • dampens sound and vibration
  • reduce maintenance due to corrosions

TYPES OF UNDER BODY COATING

  • Rubberized undercoating

This type of under coating is easy to apply and offers sound cushionong as well as protection from rust , moisture , and drugs or dents this coating can be easily removed by undercoating removal spray. rubberized coatings are generally the best option for protecting your vehicles undercarriage , as its provides simplest and best protective measure aganist rust and moisture.

  • Polyurethane undercoating

This type is little quicker and easy to apply. this type of coating requires surface preperation before applying the coating , sanding anmd applying an etching primr to bare metals before using are generally recommended.

  • Wax or paraffin based undercoatings

This type is the cheapes and quickest options available with which to protect  the undercarriage of your vehicle. But the life of this coating is low comparing to the other coatings available in the market.

  • Asphalt based under coating

These types are commonly used for large trucks and machinery.

ADVANTAGES

  • prevent corrosion and rust
  • Heat insulation
  • Anti chippping property

DISADVANTAGES

  • cost is high
  • after certain time recoating is required.
