Week 8 - Challenge 4 - Bumper
BUMPER DESIGN
AIM ; TO CREATE A SOLID BODY OF THE BUMPER FROM THE GIVEN CLASS A SURFACE.
OBJECTIVE
The main objective of the project is to create a bumper from the given CLASS A surface , and give thickness to it by close surface method. After tha t perform draft analysis on it.
TOOLING AXIS CREATION
- Tooling axis is the direction at which the mold opens and we are giving draft axis to the component by using tooling axis as reference.
- In this case the tooling axis is created by first extracted a flat surface from the class a surface and then created a point on it using normal to surface method.
- After that a line is created perpendicular to the base surface by taking the point as reference .
- Then performed draft analysis of the class a surface with the created tooling axis . And from that we can check whether the tooling axis is correct or not.

DRAFT ANALYSIS
- The draft analysis is doing in a surface is to check whether the draft angle of the surface is satisfied or not as per the industrial standards. The nominal draft angle given to a surface isv 3 deg. Sometimes in certain case draft angle is given upto .5 deg and max of 7 deg .
- At first the draft analysis of the class a surface is done before the design starts .Then if it is ok we move forward with design . The design analysis comand shows whether the draft analysis satisfy or not through the various colour ranges.
- The next draft analysis is take place after giving the final thickness to the body , the procedure of draft analysis are at first the view of the surface is change to material mode.
- Then the compass is placed along with the tooling axis and then on by clicking on the surface the software shows the draft analysis through various colour ranges. If it satisfies the industrial standards we move forward with the design otherwise we rework on it.
The draft analysis of the final solid body in different view are shown in the fig below.
