Underbody Coating

INTRODUCTION

In Indian Road Conditions, Under Body of a car plays a major role by making effective resistant from corrosion. Underbody coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car’s underbody by protecting internal body parts, frames, and other inner cavities.

TYPES OF UNDERBODY COATING

  1. Electronic Method: Using a low voltage electric current, This devices helps to stop the corrosion.
  2. Rubberized Underbody Coating: This is dense cladding(based on rubber) applied to the undercarriage of the vehicle. Generally sprayed or painted on the car when it is just out for daily usages.
  3. Wax Based Underbody Coating: The Wax spray contains a anticorrosive agent. Primarily used on wax coated vehicles underbodies. It exhibits excellent rust and corrosion resistance.
  4. Asphalt Based Underbody Coating: This type of coating is best used of lorries and trucks like large vehicles providing a higher protection compared to rubber based coatings. The process of applying this coating is time consuming.
  5. Polyurethane Underbody Coating: The coating covers the cracks and fractures of the underbody. It provides good protection against corrosion and binds with the metal.

NEED FOR UNDERBODY COATING

  • In Hill and potholes filled Roads: If the vehicle is majorly used in hilly and pothole filled roads. Majorly during rainy season the good road can get damaged. During this type of conditions. The underbody coating is a must need one to reduce the damages.
  • If the car is to be Resale for a Low loss: By using the Underbody coating it overall prevents from corrosion and rust effects and also protecting all the inner components of the vehicle. As the wear and tear and corrosion rate of the vehicle is less automatically the vehicle can be quoted for a low loss value from the initial price bought.

BENEFITS

  • Minimizing Sound: It minimizes the sound from under the car resulting a noiseless, smooth driving experience.
  • Preventing Rust and Corrosion: The underbody coating majorly prevents the metal parts exposed to the bottom side of the car from corrosion.
  • Heat Insulation: It insulates the interior of the car from high temperature penetrating beneath the vehicle allowing a comfortable ride.
  • Anti-Chipping property: Any stone getting hit in the coating it doesn’t gets removed, thus protecting the underbelly of the car.
  • Increasing Car Life: A Proper Underbody coating not only protects it from corrosion but also protection the inner components. By protection from both wear and tear and rust increases the lifespan of the vehicle.
  • Reduces NVH levels: As Indian roads are exposed to uneven patches and potholes and traveling over them may cause small stones to hit the underbody. The thick layer of underbody coating absorbs the noise and vibration.

DISADVANTAGES

  • Increase weight to the vehicle
  • Must be reapplied after 3 to 5 years.
  • Won’t be helpful if previous rust is present.
