Fender Design
OBJECTIVE:
To creat mounts for sill, Bumber, Baffle, A-Pillar and Drip Area.
FENDER:
Fender is the outside front member of an car which covers the wheel side. Fenders main purpose is to prevent from sand, rocks, and other particles creating damage to the engine and other components.
Fender is closure component, closing the engine compartment and other compartments. The major role of the fender is to avoid chipping. These fenders have a side plastic part called baffle for chipping and also pedestrian.
TYPES OF FENDER:
Full Fender
Half Fender
FULL FENDER:
Full Fenders are asthetically the good one as they are a single piece. But by considering on manufacturing basis they require a huge blank and scrap produced is large.

HALF FENDER:
Half fender are used in present cars as the blank required size is small and scrap produced is also less.

GENERAL DESIGN PROCEDURE:
1. Using curve on surface command and trim sheet command the required region of the mount is done.
2. Using extend sheet command the required distance of the sheet is done.
3. By creating a datum plane by using interfernece option is the datum plane command and offseting it to the required distance.
4. By creating the sketch for the mounting tabs and using project curves on the surface.
5. By using emboss command and upto plane option the falat face for the mounting tabs are created for proper seating of the bolts while fastening.
6. Finally the thicken command for 0.75mm thickness in inward direction is done.
MANUFACTURING PROCESS:
EMBOSS:
The emboss feature is used for creating the mounting tab and they are manufactured in the form of core and cavity.
The outer forming feature is called the cavity and inner forming feature is called the core.
This is more likely of the stamping process.
The holes are punched.
DART:
The Dart or Rib feature is used in the edge of a two faces to reduce the spring back of the lengthy sheetmetal faces and provide additional strength to the whole structure.
MOUNTINGS OF A FRONT FENDER:
1. Body
2. A-Pillar
3. Sill
4. Bumper
5. Drip

Input for Drip Area:

From the backside of the front fende, the clearance will be 200mm for cowl mounting area.
From the front side of the front fender, the clearance will be 150mm for headlamp housing.
DRIP MOUNTING:

A-PILLAR MOUNTING:

SILL MOUNTING:

BAFFLE MOUNTING:

BUMPER MOUNTING:
