Structural analysis of a buidling using Robot Structural Analysis

1.

AIM: To answer What are HVAC systems? Why are they essential in the modeling of building

RESULT:

HVAC system means Heating Ventillation and Air Conditioning . It is a technology of indoor enviromental comfort. The goal is to provide thermal comfort and acceptable indoor air quality. It is an important part of the structure.

They are essential in the modelling of building because:
It controls the overall environment of the building.
It enhances the productivity .
It improves the air quality.
It helps in achieving the energy efficiency.

2.

AIM:From week 7 assignment, based on the building designed use the same Revit file to design a HVAC system for each floor to cover the topics included in the class.
a. Typical HVAC unit includes Distribution center
b. Collector
c. Ducts
d. Blower

PROCEDURE: open a new project of mechanical template then go to managetab and select manage links option and add the architecture file of week 7 to the list.

a.Go to the system tab and select air terminal lthen from insert tab load family go to mechanical and select and select required air terminal and place it on one by one required places.

b. Go to the system tab and select then go to mechanical equipments and add collector from insert tab load familythen mechanical and place it in the required place.add 1 in all rooms

c. Select all the terminals and connector one by one using cntrl tab and from the ribbon tab select the duct optionthen select the type of ductthen from the ribbon tab select generate layout then select the ttype of layout of duct and press finish . similarly do it for all the rooms.

d.the air terminals set in the starting acts as blowers in the project.

3.

AIM: To Use the add-ins tab to load plug-ins for robot structural analysis to your Revit software

PROCEDURE: Go to the shop option from revit software and search for robot structure analysis then download . and then install then go to the revit software and in the analyze tab check whether the file is installed or not.

AIM: To answer Why do we need to assess buildings/analyze while modeling elements? Does design affect modeling in anyways?

RESULT:

we need to assess buildings/analyze while modeling elements .IT effects the modelling in various ways listed below:
It helps in calculating load and internal forces.
It helps to cross check the engineering design.
Can perform during design.
Can analyse each and individual item.

5.

AIM: From the structural model developed in week 6 and 7, export the complete analytical model to robot structural analysis.
a. List your assumptions on what boundary conditions will be realistic for the analysis approach
b. Use the design standards to decide what loads must be applied to floorings based on the type of structure decided
c. List the load combinations and include them in the analysis model
d. Analyze the building and report the following results
i. Maximum Moment in each floor for all Load Combinations
ii. Maximum Displacement in each floor for all Load combinations
iii. Lateral Displacement in building for all Lateral Load combinations
e. After analysis, do you think you have a better approach or idea in modeling structural members?

PROCEDURE:

open the structural model developed in week6
a. According to my assumption area boundary condition will be suitable for the analysis approach.
from the analyze tab select boundary condition .open the analytical model after adding load combination and load cases and then go to boundary condition from analyzze tab and select the area option and then select the floors.
b. According to the design standard area load on the type of structure go to the load combination from analyzze tab and select the area load and using rectangle option and draw rectangle in the area of all beam

c. then go to load case option from the analyze tab and add all the type of loads.then go to the load combination and add the loads such as LC1 and give the formula for it which is 1 DL +1.5 LL.

d. In the analyze tab select the robot structure analyzation and send the model to it using send linkopen the robot structure app and then select all and the select the load cases go to members and then apply slect automatic load combination then start run the analysis then to see the results just go to the result tab

RESULT:

a.

b.

c.

d.

AIM: To answer What is energy analysis and why do we need to consider it while modeling in Revit?

How does the factor of sustainability improve the quality of your design?

RESULT:

It is a traditional method of assessing the way the energy is used in an operation involving the physical or chemical proccessing of materials and the transfer or conversion of energy.

Four general principles of it are:

Calculating heat loss and gain.
Calculating the energy.
Determining the fuel requirement.
Evaluating the costs.

The factor of sustainibility improves the quality of design by:

Lower energy.
Impact of climate change.
Resource consumption.
Quality and durability of price.
Non toxic materials.
