Section Modulus calculation and optimization
SECTION MODULUS : IT is a way of quantifying a cross section of a given geometry.it is directly proportional to the area moment of inertia of the cross section.higher the section modulus,the more moment of inertia,more stiffness and thus more resistance to deformation and bending.section modulus can be improved by varying the geometry of the cross section,stiffness cabn be improved by just improving the geometry without the need for adding extra material.
Calculation of sectiojn modulus
S=I/Y
S= Section modulus
I= Moment of inertia
y= distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object.
Y= total distance /2
study 1
hood design the moment of inertia value ,

maximum moment of ineria =4.885245689e+06[mm^4]
minimum moment of inertia= 1.411407892e+04[mm^4]
distance between the neutral axis to the extreme end =439.92mm
S=14140.7892mm^4/439.92
S=32.21136mm^3
study 2
Inner panel is curve offset by 0.5mm inward section inertia analysis is done same as 1 for closed curve.

minimum moment of inertia=1.385615165e+04[mm^4]
distance between the neutral axis to the extreme end =439.92mm
S= I/Y
S= 13856.15165/439.92mm
S=31.496980MM^3
CONCLUSION:
IN this study we take the minimum of inertia moment to analyze the minimum limit of hood deformation .thus the section modulus of the front hood was calculated and compared with the new design .
Result
if we increase the cross section area give a better section modulus and helps in increasing the strength of hood.
IF WE decrease the cross section area and modulus its decrease the strength of the hood like that in my study 1 and study 2.
