Project on Concrete Mix Design for various grades of Concrete

Aim:-To Calculate the Concrete Mix Design for M35 grade concrete with fly ash.

Introduction:

Design mix iprocess is used to design by structrual engineer. It is use to gain accuracy of required strength and hardness from available ingrediants of concrete

It used to gain required strength and hardness. it can be controlled by water cement ratio. It is mostly used for construction of heavy structures.

Procedure:

  • For M35 grade of concrete with fly ash

1)Target Mean Strength:

f'ck= fck+1.65 S

Deviation = 5 (according to IS 10262:2019(Table-2) compressive strength for 28 days 40N/mm^2

f'ck= 35+1.65 x 5

= 43.25 n/mm^2.

2)Water cement ratio:

  • As per IS 10262:2019, graph the water cement ratio is 0.4
  • As per IS 456:2000,(table no:3) the water cement ratio at sever exposure:0.45
  • Minimum water cement ratio is considered 0.4.

3)Water content:

  • As per IS 10262:2019(Table -4), water required as per 20mm aggregate size is 186 litres.
  • As the slump value is 100mm ,6% of water should be added
  • 186+(6*186/100)=197.16 litre
  • Super plasticizer can be used to reduce 29% of water (ie., 197.16-57.17=139.99 liters)
  • w/c=0.4
  • C=139.99/0.4
  • C= 349.975 kg/m^3.
  • As per IS456:2000 table 4, 349.975 is greater than minimum cement content.

4) Cementiesous material content:

  • Addition admixture added in cement 10% (i.e.,34.99 kg/m^3)
  • 349.975+39.76=384.965 kg/m^3
  • 139.99/384.965=0.4
  • 30% of fly ash is added to cement as per project requirement
  • 384.965-30%= 269.475 kg/m^3
  • Saving of cement by adding fly ash = 115.489 kg/m^3

5)Volume of course aggregate :

  • w/c=0.4
  • As per IS10262:2019(table no.5)
  • Size of aggregate : 20mm
  • Zone-I (0.5-0.4 =0.1 )
  • The water cement ratio is 0.1 less than course aggregate. So, for every +/- 0.05 mm change of +/- 0.01 mm has been made.
  • 0.60+0.02=0.62
  • For pumped concrete 10% of course aggregate is removed 0.62-0.062=0.558
  • Volume of course aggregate is 0.55

6)Volume of fine aggregate :

  • Volume of fine aggregate :1-0.558=0.442
  1. a) a)volume of concrete = 1m^3
  2. b) Volume of cement = (269.475 /3.15) x (1/1000)= 0.0855 (specific gravity =3.15)
  3. c) Volume of water = (139.99 /1 ) x (1/1000)= 0.1399

d)volume of Admixture =(8.74/2.2 ) x (1/1000)=0.0075

  1. e) volume of course and fine aggregates = a-(b+c+d).

= (1-(0.0855+0.1399+0.0075))

=0.795kg/m3

f)Mass of course aggregate= e x volume of course aggregate x specific gravity of course aggregate X1000

= 0.795 x 0.558 x 2.74 x 1000

= 1215.49kg/m3

g)Mass of fine aggregate= e x volume of fine aggregate x specific gravity of fine aggregate X1000

=0.795x 0.442 x 2.74 x 1000

=962.80 kg/m3

7)Mix proportion for trail no 1:

  1. Volume of cement : 269.475 kg/m3
  2. volume of water: 139.99 liters/m3
  3. volume of Admixture: 7.4 kg/m3
  4. Volume of course aggregate:1215.49kg/m3
  5. Volume of Fine aggregate : 962.80 kg/m3

8)TRAIL MIX RATIO= 1:3.57:4.51
