Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit

  1. Identify each of the major elements in the above automotive wiring diagram.

Battery, Ammeter,Starter, Ignition Coil, Breaker, Junction Block,Fuse , Current and voltage regulator, Generator,Foot Selector Switch, Dome Light Switch, Light Switch Horn,Horn Button.

2.Explain the purpose and working of any three elements briefly.

Fuse - It is given in electrical appliance so as to protect from the overflow of current in the electri circuit.Fuse basically consists of an wire which melts on exceeding current under a certain limit thus breaking the flow of electric current in the circuit.

Ammeter - Ammeter is a device used to measure the current. It can measure both alternating and direct current.Ammeter is always connected in series so as to measure the current flowing through the circuit. When a shunt resistance of very low value is connected in parallel with a basic galvanometer, it becomes an ammeter and can be used to measure current in the circuit

Battery - Battery is used to provide power (current ) as in the above diagram. Battery consists of two ends anode and cathode due to the chemical reaction between thenm the electron will flow from one end to another end . This flow of electron can be used to light a bulb or any other work. The battery conver chemical energy into mechanical energy.

3.If the total load is 10A from battery, what should be the fuse rating?

If the total load is 10 A from battery then the fue provided for the circuit must be 15% - 25% greater than the total load because as in the above case there could be tolerance of +/-5 in total load .So the fuse between 11.5A to 12.5A will be suitable for it.

5.Identify any two elements which are connected parallel to each other. Why they are connected in parallel ?

Dome light ,Plate light are connected in parallel so as to provide same across both of them.

Current and voltage regulator is also connected in paralle so that both current and voltage can be varried easily.

6.Identify any two elements which are connected in series. Why they are connected in series?

Two elemnets which are connected in series are -

- Fuse - Fuse is connected in series as to restrict the the overflow of current by melting and breaking the circuit.

- Ammeter - Ammeter is always connected in series so as to measure the current flowing through the circuit.
