Challenge

Preparing Schedule & Cost Estimation for a building using REVIT

Solution.1)

Aim: To give the shortcut key for the following commands:

a. Using 3D model create a section box
b. To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout
c. To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views
d. To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view
e. To increase the range of visibility in a plan view
f. To select the previously selected items
g. To add annotations to the model views
h. To bring the model elements inline.
i. To rotate the model elements
j. To move an object to another location
k. To copy a model element
l. To mirror an element about an axis
m. To create an array of model elements

Procedure:

Shortcut Key of the following command is given below:

a. Using 3D model create a section box = BX
b. To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout = CS
c. To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views = TL
d. To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view = EOD
e. To increase the range of visibility in a plan view = VR
f. To select the previously selected items = Ctrl + <
g. To add annotations to the model views = DI
h. To bring the model elements in line = AL
i. To rotate the model elements = RO
j. To move an object to another location = MV
k. To copy a model element = CO
l. To mirror an element about an axis = MM
m. To create an array of model elements = AR

Result: Shortcut keys of the following given command has been listed above.

Solution.2)

Aim: To using Revit and the project used from week 6 to 8 prepare a schedule for the following
a. Walls
b. Doors
c. Windows
d. Material – Concrete/Wood

Procedure:

  • Open Architectural File of Project 2.
  • Go to view tab, Select Schedules and Schedule/Quantities.

  • A dialogue box will appear, select walls for creating schedules for walls and Click on the OK button.

  • Select the parameters that we need to include in our schedules and click on OK button.

  • Wall schedule for the selected Parameters has been created.

  • Same thing can been done for Door, Windows, Material - Concrete/Wood.

Schedule for Door

Schedule for Windows

Schedule for Material -Concrete/Wood

Result: Schedules for walls, doors, windows and Material Take off has been created.

Solution.3)

Aim: To using Revit Calculate area and volume of each room in the model with appropriate room tags applied to each room. Prepare a schedule report for area and volume of each room.

Procedure:

  • Open the Architectural File.
  • Go to View Tab, Select Schedules option, select Schedules/Quantities.

  • Select the Rooms in from the list coming in a dialogue box to create schedules and click on OK button.

  • Now, a new dialogue box will appear, select the desired properties to add to the schedules and Click on OK button.

  • Click on OK

Result: Schedules for Rooms Area, Volume has been made.

Solution.4)

Aim: Using the same schedule using the unit cost rate for materials available on the internet, prepare the total cost of materials used in the project
a. Total Cost of Materials
b. Individual Material Takeoff

Procedure:

  • Open the Architectural File.
  • Go to the Project Browser, Select Schedules and Wall Schedules.

  • On the Menu bar, select the Calculated Option.

  • A dialogue box will appear, fill the box with appropriate values.

  • A table with Total cost values has been added.

Wall Schedule including Cost of the Material

Door Schedule including the cost of the material

Result: Schedules including the cost of the material has been created.

Solution.5)

Aim: Using the concept of Visual Programming discussed in class, list a flowchart for the following scenario
a. How to decide framings for a structure using Dynamo?
b. If there is no water coming from the pipes
c. If the request for money from the client has been declined for the project

Procedure:

a) Flowchart to decide framings for a structure using Dynamo

  1. Decide the type of structure
  2. Decide the location and oreintation of building
  3. Decide the height and number of floors of building.
  4. Decide the floor plan of loading.
  5. Determine the loads acting on the building.
  6. Determine the Columns and Beams of the building.
  7. Determine the type of foundation for the building.
  8. Determine the materials required for the building.

b) Flowchart to solve the problem if no water is coming from pipes.

  1. Check whether the water pump is working properly or not to pump the water in pipe system
  2. If water pump is working, then check whether the connections are proper or not.
  3. If connections are OK , then check the pipe, if there is problem in pipe, then replace the pipe.

c) Flowchart to solve the problem if money from the client has been declined.

  1. If request for getting money is declined, ask for the problem client see in the project.
  2. Make another try with more proper report to convince the clients.
  3. If clients problem has sorted, then he will make the payment for the project, else the work is called off.

Result: A flow chart for the above-mentioned following points has been made.

Solution.6)

Aim: To List the parameters associated with each model element
a. Wall
b. Floor
c. Door
d. Window
e. Table
f. Building

Procedure:

Parameters associated with the following model elements are listed below:

a. Wall: Area, Volume, Type of wall, height, thickness.
b. Floor:
Type, Material, Finishing, Thickness.
c. Door:
Height, Width, Material, Cost, Frames, Door Types
d. Window:
Height, Width, Material, Cost, Frames, Windows Types
e. Table:
Type of Table( Dining, Coffee, Conference Table, etc.), Placement, Cost.
f. Building
: Number of Floors, Types of Structure, Height, Width, Height, Purpose of Building, Serviceability, Foundation Type, Geographical Location.

Result: All the parameters of the given model elements have been listed.
