Challenge

Preparing Schedule & Cost Estimation for a building using REVIT

1)

Aim: To use the shortcut keys in Revit discussed in class to complete the following tasks and list them below

  1. Using 3D model create a section box ...................... BX
  2. To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout ...................... BX
  3. To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views ...................... CS
  4. To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view .................... EOD
  5. To increase the range of visibility in a plan view ..................... VR
  6. To select the previously selected items ..................... Ctrl + <
  7. To add annotations to the model views ..................... DI
  8. To bring the model elements in line ..................... AL
  9. To rotate the model elements ..................... RO
  10. To move an object to another location ..................... MV
  11. To copy a model element ..................... CO/CC
  12. To mirror an element about an axis ..................... MM
  13. To create an array of model elements ..................... AR

2)

Aim: Using Revit and the project used from week 6 to 8 prepare a schedule for the following
a. Walls
b. Doors
c. Windows
d. Material – Concrete/Wood

Procedure:

Step 1: Open the project and go to the View tab and select schedule and click on Schedule/Quantities.

Step 2: Select Architectural in the filter and add walls schedule and click OK. Add fields and click OK.

Step 3: Similarly create schedules for windows and doors.

Step 4: Select Material takeoff from the Schedule option. Add fields and click OK.

Result: Schedules are prepared for walls, doors, windows, and material takeoff.

3)

Aim: Using Revit Calculate the area and volume of each room in the model with appropriate room tags applied to each room. Prepare a schedule report for the area and volume of each room.

Procedure:

Step 1: Go to the Architectural tab and select the room option by choosing boundary to create rooms and tag them.

Step 2: Now go View tab and select the schedule and click on rooms. Add fields and click OK.

Result: Room is scheduled as shown below.

4)

Aim: Using the same schedule using the unit cost rate for materials available on the internet, prepare the total cost of materials used in the project
a. Total Cost of Materials
b. Individual Material Take off

Procedure:

Step 1: Open the schedules created earlier and click on the insert option. Create a new field name cost and add cost per unit.

Step 2: Now click on Calculated and add the formula by multiplying the area.

Result: Individual Cost and Total cost of material is added to schedules.

5)

Aim: Using the concept of Visual Programming discussed in class, list a flowchart for the following scenario
a. How to decide framings for a structure using Dynamo?
b. If there is no water coming from the pipes
c. If the request for money from the client has been declined for the project

Dynamo is an open-source visual programming language for Revit, written by designers and construction professionals. It is a programming language that allows us to type lines of code; while also creating an algorithm that consists of nodes.

Flowchart for If there is no water coming from the pipes.

Flowchart for If the request for money from the client has been declined for the project.

6)

Aim: List the parameters associated with each model element.

Parameters associated with the following model elements are:

  • Walls- Type, Length, Width, Thickness, Height, Material, Cost, Area, Resistivity coefficient, Thermal Absorbtance
  • Floor- Type, Length, Width, Thickness, Height, Material, Area, Cost, Resistivity coefficient, Thermal Absorbtance
  • Door- Type, Length, Width, Thickness, Height, Material, Cost, Lintel height, Height of sill
  • Window- Type, Length, Width, Thickness, Height, Material, Area, Cost, Thermal Absorbtance, Lintel height, Height of Sill
  • Table- Type, Purpose, Height, Width, Length, Cost
  • Building- Type, Purpose, Number of floors, foundations type, Loads, Length, Width, Height, Material used, Location
