Preparing Schedule & Cost Estimation for a building using REVIT

1) Use the shortcut keys in Revit discussed in class to complete the following tasks and list them below
a. Using 3D model create a section box

  • XB to create a section BOX in 3D view

b. To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout

  • DR to create similar doors

c. To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views

  • TL thin lines to reduce the thickness

d. To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view

  • VG Visibility graphics to overide the line type and pattern with respect to the colors

e. To increase the range of visibility in a plan view

  • VR View range- adjust

f. To select the previously selected items

  • Ctrl < to select the previously selected items

g. To add annotations to the model views

  • DI To add Dimensions

h. To bring the model elements in line

  • AL Align the model elements to the reference

i. To rotate the model elements

  • RO to rotate the model elements

j. To move an object to another location

  • MV to move the objects to another location

k. To copy a model element

  • CO to copy the model elements

l. To mirror an element about an axis

  • MM to mirror the elements

m. To create an array of model elements

  • AR to array the components

2) Using Revit and the project used from week 6 to 8 prepare a schedule for the following
a. Walls
b. Doors
c. Windows
d. Material – Concrete/Wood

  • Open the mode to get the schedule
  • Go to view tab>Create panel>Schedules

  • Select the wall component in the list

  • Select the parameter in the parameter list to take the schedule.

  • Click sortiong and filter to re arrange the parameters as per the requirement:

  • Door schedule:

  • Window Schedule:

Wall material Schedule:

3) Using Revit Calculate area and volume of each room in the model with appropriate room tags applied to each room. Prepare a schedule report for area and volume of each room.

  • Go to Architecture tab>Room and area panel
  • Click the room and area tag and place in the room which required.

  • Name the tag, which is present in the property browser.

To add area in the schedule

View tab>create panel>Schedules

select "Room" in the list

Select the parameter in the parameter's list.

4) Using the same schedule using the unit cost rate for materials available in the internet, prepare total cost of materials used in the project
a. Total Cost of Materials
b. Individual Material Take off

  • Go to View tab>Create panel>Schedule-Material takeoff.
  • select the component to take matrerial takeoff.

Select the parematers in the list.

5) Using the concept of Visual Programming discussed in class, list a flowchart for the following scenario

a. How to decide framings for a structure using Dynamo ?

  • Preparation of formwork
  • Assembling the formwork
  • Placement of reinforcement
  • Concretre placing
  • compacting
  • curing

b. If there is no water coming from the pipes

  • Check the pipe connection
  • check the water supply
  • Check for any leaks
  • Fix the problem

c. If request for money from client has been declined for the project

  • Explain project to the client
  • give time period to client to decide
  • Accepts: continue the project
  • Rejects: withdraw the project

6) List the parameters associated with each model element
a. Wall

  • Top constrain
  • Base constrain
  • Top offset
  • base offset
  • thickness (edit type>structure-edit, add layers and thickness)
  • Materials.
  • Mark
  • comments

b. Floor

  • Base level
  • thickness (edit type>structure-edit, add layers and thickness)
  • Height offset
  • Mark
  • comments

c. Door

  • Length
  • Width
  • Heigth
  • Materials
  • Sill heigth
  • Head heigth
  • Level

d. Window

  • Length
  • Width
  • Heigth
  • Materials
  • Sill heigth
  • Head heigth
  • Level

e. Table

  • Length
  • Width
  • thickness
  • Materials
  • Mark
  • Comments
    f. Building
  • Length
  • Width
  • Heigth
  • Area
  • offsets
