Hood design-Week 2
WHAT IS HOOD:-
Hood is that part of car which covers the engine and other important equipement such as Battery,Radiator,Cooling Tank which are essential for running of the car.It consist of Inner Panel,Outer Panel,Hinge Assembly,Striker,Supporting Rod (may be Gas stay or manual support rod).It not only protect the equipement but also decipate the energy outside the body rather than the inside. It also give access to the engine and other parts for reparing purposes. It is made up of materials such as Steel or Aluminum.

INNER PANEL:-
It is main supprting body and one of the most important part of the hood assembly, which is use to increase the strength of the hood and also to deviate the force toward the hinges or outside of the car body so that whenever there will be collision on the front side of the car the driver and passenger will not be affected by it.It has a thickness of about 0.75mm.

OUTER PANEL:-
Its main purpose is styling of the car so that the car will look good.It also has thickness of about 0.75 mm.It also allow the air to flow in aerodynamically manner so that there will not be any obstruction in the path of the car.

HINGES:-
Actually it is a assembly of two parts one on hood and another on engine side. Its main purpose is to connect hood and engine side part of the engine so that hood can be place above engine side part to protect it and it also perform the function of rotary motion about the hinge axis so that there will be proper opening and closing of the hood.

STRIKER:-
Its main function is to perform the locking operation so that there will be proper sitting of the hood on the engine side of the car.

LATCH TRAJECTORY:-
This trajectory motion of the latch is performed by drawing circle by taking hinge axis as a reference so that proper locking mechanism should work.

MASTICS SEALS:-
When we connect hood outer panel with the hood inner panel we can not rivet or weld it because we use hood outer panel for styling purpose and if we use such things to connect them then it may affect on stylish side of the hood ,so for that purpose we use Mastic seals. These are the hard rubbered cylindrical in shape about a height of 5 to 6 mm . They placed in between the hood outer and hood inner panel so that there should not be any vibration or noice in hood , also there will not be any imprints on the upper side of the outer panel, also they increases the strength up to the the of 80mm.

EMBOSSING:-
Embossing is the process of creating a rised imprints and designs or suncken parts on sheet metals. Its main purpose is to increase the strength of the sheet and to support the reinforcement in proper manner.

DEEP DRAWING :-
it is the process in which we use punch and die tool. The desired sheet is placed in between the punch and die and punch presses the sheet inside the die so that the desired shape is gain on the sheet. The die is stationary while the punch perform the up and down motion, this punch can be operate by hydraulically or mechanically but hydraulic press is mostly use for deep drawing so that there will not be any damadge in drawing.

HEMMING:-
It is the process in which hood outer panel and the hood inner panel are joined by just bending the outer panel by 180 degree. In this process the rolling ball are rolled over the sheet for 2,3 times so that there will be proper fiting bitween outer and inner panel.
