Hood design-Week 2

OBJECTIVE:-

Project is about to design a Hood that satisfies the manufacturing requirements, functional requirements as per standards

Hood:-

The hood or bonnet is a hinged cover over the engine of motor vehicles that allows access to the engine compartment or trunk foe maintenanace and repair. The inner panel provides strength while the outer panel functions as metal cover.Hood comes from the old english word Hod means,a soft covering for the head.

The hood assembly consists of inner and outer panels,Latch and hinge reinforcement. Here the outer and inner panels are joined with help of hemming process and application of Mastic sealant.

COMMAND USED:-

  1. Offset surface
  2. Offset curve on surface
  3. Trim sheet
  4. Through curves
  5. Law extension
  6. Emboss
  7. Face blend
  8. Edge blend

 DESIGN CONSIDERATION TO BE FOLLOWED:-

  1. Passenger safety
  2. Pedestrian safety
  3. Manufacturing Feasibility
  4. Positioning the striker along the trajectory of the centre of Hinge Axis
  5. Joining techniques of inner and outer panel

 DIFFERENT DESIGN OPERATIONS:-

     1)Hemming:-

   2)Edge Relief:-

   3)Latch placement:-

Embossing:-

MASTIC DATA:-

A sealant is sunstance used to block the passage of fluids through the surface or joints or opening in materials.Mastic sealants are elastic compound that behaves like rubber. Its placed between the outer and inner panels.Initially is it paste form, but after the hot furnace bath,it gets hardened thus joining the outer and inner panels.

CONCLUSION:-

Creating a hood panel with given dimensions and provide hemming data id done successfully.
