Hood design-Week 2
The hood is the hinged cover over the engine of motor car. Hoods can open to allow access to the engine compartment.
The hood is supported in 2 ways
1.Support Rod-There should be bent in support rod for having rigidity. The maximum curvature of rod to be 35mm and battery should be other side of the rod
2.Gas stay-These are used in premium cars
Emboss
In inner pannel we create emboss,it has to be designed in a way that all the force deccipiate to side of hood rather than going to centre and causing trouble for people inside car. Most of emboss is designed in y or inclined way.

Deep drawing-The process of manufacturing of hood is called deep drawing. It is also called as stamping and this stamping is done in 7 degrees. There is a cutout(empty space) in hood ,this is done for pedestrian safety.During collision it abosrbs the shock and thus create less injury for pedestrians.
Reinforcement-This is done for hinges and striker. This provides strength support of the hinges and striker
Mastic sealent-These and kept between inner and outer pannel in the emboss. The function of this is to reduce vibration. It has 5mm thickness and 10mm diameter. Thus it improve NVH.It is hard rubber.
Trajectory-This is done for the angle of placement of striker in hood. The hinge axis is drawn first and a circle is drawn with respect to hinge axis as keeping the distance between hinge and circle as the circles radius. Then draw a tangent in the circle with respect to striker. Thus the striker will rotate in its trajectory during opening and closing of hood. The striker will be perpendicular to trajectory.

Hemming-This process is done for joining inner and ourter pannels of hood,So spot welding can be avoided. The process of creating hemming is by rolling.
