Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Wheel Arch

Wheel Arch is the semi-circular part of the fender positioned above the wheel of the vehicle. The purpose of wheel arch is for safety of pedestrians as well as engine compartments, thus allowing not to splash all the stones, dirts, hazardous objects to pedestrians as well as engine compartments. Here we take in consideration of european standards to check our design provided.

Sketching procedure:

  • A Horizontal and vertical axis is drawn from the center of the wheel.
  • A 30 degree line drawn to left and 50 degree line drawn to right of vertical axis.
  • A 150mm line is drawn perpendicular from horizontal axis to the fender which gives point E.
  • The midpoint of the arc cut by the sections C and E gives D
  • The value of L which we measure should follow european standards.

L of SA(9.9553)

L of SB(10.00)

L of SC(0.113670)

L of SD(2.8982)

L of SE(6.2289)

Result

L of SA=9.9553 < 10 fail

L of SB=10.00 =10 pass

L of SC=0.113670<10 fail

L of SD=2.8982<10 fail

L of SE=6.2289<10 fail

Conclusion

As per European Standards our test hasn't passed because every L values should be equal to or greater than 10.
