Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Section Modulus
Section modulus is defined as the ratio of total moment resisted by the section to the stress in the extreme fibre.which is equal to the yeild strength.
Formula
Section Modulus using the formula
S = I/y
Where,
S = Section Modulus
I = Moment of Inertia
y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object
Moment of inertia is nothing but offering resistance against of moment, bending or twisting, i.e if we applied any external load on the body, how much resistance its offering to tend to deform
It represents the strength of the section.
- Greater the value of S, greater will be the strength of the section.
It is also often used to determine the yield moment (My) such that My = S × σy, where σy is the yield strength of the material.
The outline made for measuring section modulus is given below using intersection curve in both inner and outer pannel

1.Section modulus calculation

S=MOI(Min)/Y

Y=876.665/2
Y=438.332
Therefor ,
S=1.38212727e+04(mm^4)/438.332mm
S1=31.53mm^3
2 Section modulus calculation after increasing cross section(0.5mm)

S=1.417921976e+04(mm^4)/438.332mm
S2=32.35mm^3
Conclusion
We see that section modulus increases while increasing its cross section.S1=31.53mm^3 and S2=32.35mm^3(with increased cross section of 0.5mm).
