Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
FENDER WHEEL ARC REGULATION
When an automotive vehicle is running away then stone particle , dust particle and fluid particle is thrown away by the rotating tyres of vehicle. Due to very sigh velocity these particle can hit to any pedestrian and can also damage the small parts of vehicle itself. For the safety of pedestrian and vehicle from these type of particles there are some regulation related to orientation of fender wheel arc and wheel of tire. There are three regulation for fender wheel arc, these are as follow :
1) Japanies regulation
2) European Regulation
3) United State Regulation
1) Japanies Regulation : According to the Japanies regulation we have create a central vertical axis line from the center of wheel and create two lines first 30 degree forward and second 50 degree rearward from that vertical central axis. As shown in below attached image . Now find out the intersection point of those lines with wheel surface, and project those point in wheel arc surface .In these intersection point the horizontal clearance between fender (Wheel arc) and wheel should me more than 5 mm.

2) European Regulation : According to the European regulation we have follow the following steps :
1) Create a central vertical axis from the center of wheel.
2) Create two lines , first at 30 degree forward and second at 50 degree rearward to that vertical central axis.
3) Create a line at 150 mm offset above side from the horizontal line passing through the center of wheel. In which point that line intersect to the fender's surface , Create a line by matching that point with the center of wheel.
4) Find the bisecting line of line found in step 3 and line of 50 degree rearward.
5) Now find the intersection point of all lines with the fender,s surface
6) Project that all points in fender,s surface (wheel arc surface). In all the intersection points the horizontal clearance between wheel and wheel arc should be grater than 10 mm. And vertical clearance should be grater than 5 mm.

3) United State (U.S.) Regulation : According to the U S regulation we have create the lines in every 10 degree , starting from -20 degree rearward to the 180 degree forward .Now find out the intersection point of all lines in wheel surface and project them in fender,s surface ( wheel arc surface) . The horizontal clearance and vertical clearance between wheel and wheel arc (fender) should be more than 5 mm.

Analysis As Per European Regulation :
Sketch Preparation : We prepared the sketch as per process ,explained above for European regulation.

Measurements : Now we are measuring the clearance for all sections
1) Horizontal Clearance :
1.1) For section SA-SA : Horizontal clearance (L) = 9.9490 mm
SO, (L) <10 mm

1.2) FOR SECTION SB-SB :
Horizontal clearance (L) = 10 mm

1.3) For Section SC-SC : Horizontal clearance (L) = 0.1139 mm
So, (L) <10 mm

1.4) For Section SD-SD : Horizontal clearance (L) = 2.8875 mm
So , (L) < 10 mm

1.5) For section SE-SE : Horizontal clearance (L) = 5.9973 mm
So, (L) < 10 mm

Hence we found the analysis data as below :

2) VERTICAL CLEARANCE : As per the European regulation the vertical clearance between the fender (wheel arc) and the wheel should be more then 5 mm for two sections : SB -SB and SC-SC
2.1) For Section SB-SB :
Vertical clearance (a) = 48.6263 mm
So, (a) > 5 mm

2.2) For Section SC-SC :
Vertical clearance (a) = 43.3597 mm
So, (a) > 5 mm

Hence we found the analysis data as below :

CONCLUSION : From the above analysis we found that the given class-A input data not satisfied the horizontal clearance condition as per the European regulation. So , the design should be reverted back to the class-A designer and inform them to modify the design in such a way that the horizontal clearance should be increase as per given data.
