Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

WHEEL ARCH DESIGN STANDARDS:

The fender also referred to as quarter panel, as the name suggests, frames the wheel of a car. It saves its purposes by adding the aesthetics by blocking out the vision to the inner transmission components. Then it is housed after coating an anti chipping agent which tends to not throwing around the particles like sand, rocks inside the components and the pedestrians.

While the wheel is below the fender, wheel arch to be specific it is mandatory for the wheel arch to not come into contact with the wheel or its axle and the outer peripheral, to not be in contact with any of the mobile parts in general.

Now with that being said, there are some regulatory parameters and standards followed by the OEM's just like every other parts and components are qualified.

There is the Japanese, American, European regulations standardized, it would become tedious and work consuming to follow these regulations separately for each and every geographical positions, hence the maximum criteria is adopted as optimum value.

Here, we are given the wheel and the fender or quarter panel assembly for which the standards set to be analyzed against.

What the European standards demand?

The European standards for the fender design is that there should be a minimum clearance of 10mm between the vertical axis, 30`degree` wheel forward, 50`degree` wheel backward, 150mm from the horizontal axis and the mid section between the last two all taken from the wheel center also depicted in the below image.
