1.wheel arch

• wheel arch is semi circular part of the fender positioned aboventhe wheel of the vehicle.
• The design of wheel arch of a fender should be such that it must be a sheild to protect the passenger's campartment.
• The wheel arc of the fender regulation differ from the various country.

2.Objective of the wheel arch challenge.

The objective of the wheel arch challenge is to Calculate the Wheel Arch gap at required points and check whether the car passes the European standard.

3.European standards foe the wheel arch.

1. The clearance \"L\" as shown in above fig at all the five sections SA-SA, SB-SB, SC-SC, SD-SD and SE-SE should be greater than 10 mm.
2. Wheel Guard Requirement: The value of \"a\" shall be more than 5 mm at a line 30° forward and 50° rearward from centre vertical axis of the wheel.

4.Obtained result.

Software used:NX 12 (CAD)

Sketch is drawn on the wheel face as per the european standards provided and provide and projected on the wheel arch at section SA,SB ,SC,SD and SE to measure /"L"/,/"a"/ and wheel arch area.

1. let us measure the distances between the points at the 5 sections.

2.Now to find the horizontal distance between the wheel and the fender. This distance should be at least 5mm from SA point, SB point, and SC point.

Project the made sketch onto the plane of the taken wheel projrction.

Distance between SA point and fender outer curve =9.9490mm(PASS)

Distance between SB point and fender outer curve = 10.00 mm (pass)

Distance between SC point and fender outer curve =-0.113499mm (FAIL)

Distance between SD point and fender outer curve =-2.8875mm(fail)

Distance between SE point and fender outer curve =-5.9973mm(fail)

conclusion

The styling team is required to modify the styling surface of the fender such that the clearance \"L\" at sections SA, SC, SD and SE is equal to or greater than 10 mm by increasing the curvature at those sections towards outside.
