Challenge

Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

OBJECTIVE:

To define the wheel arch.

Purpose for creating the wheel arch.

What are the standards value of the wheel arch.

How to measure the clearance for the given class A.

WHEEL ARCH AREA:

It is a Semi-circular part of Fender which is placed above the wheel.

The purpose is for creating the wheel arch is to protect the pedestrians and the things around the road and the BIW from stone particles.

In this fender we are going to check the clearance between the fender and the wheel.

Some standards are used over the world i.e. AMERICAN STANDARD EUROPEON STANDARD, JAPANESE STANDARD.

BUT IN THIS CHALLENGE WE ARE GOING TO CHECK THE WHEEL ARCH CLEARENCE BASED ON THE EUROPEOPN STANDARD.

The Main objective of this Standard is that the outer edge of the fender and wheel should have a clearance between them, For European the Clearance should be greater than 10mm

europeon standard

japanese standard

american standard

How to measure the clearance value:

Create the datum plane on thr outer edge of the wheel

Create the centre point on the wheel or at mid point.

Create a horizontal line from the centre point to the right side as well as left side on that plane.

Now create a vertical line from the same centre point on the same plane.

create the section by creating a inlined line of 30 degree from the vertical line. i.e. SB

Again create the section by creating a inclined line of 50 degree from the same vertical line but on opposite side. i.e. SC

Now again create a section by planning a line on the fender at a distance of 150 mm i.e. SE

Now create a line by using diverted line tool between SC and SE.

Now by using the project curve option create the arc by using the edge of the fender on the same plane.

You will get some intersection points between these lines and the arch.

Project these points on the surface by using project curve.

Now you can measure the values which is should be max 10mm.

measure values are mentioned below.....

If you will get some -ve values the we need changes in design to get the proper values

thankyou.......
