Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
AIM:-
- To understand the Fender regulations in JAPAN, EUROPE and US region.
- Calculate the Wheel Arch Gap at the required points for the given Fender Wheel Arch and check whether the car passes the European standard.
Theory:-
Fender Regulation across different parts of the World:-
- Japan Regulation:-

- The clearance (L) must be greater than 5 mm at all the three positions shown, namely A, B & C from the Fender Wheel Arch Area.
- Wheel Guard Requirement:-The value of a shall be more than 5 mm at a line 30 deg forward and 50 deg rearward from the central vertical axis of the wheel.
- European Regulation:-

- The clearance at the sections SA-SA, SB-SB, SC-SC, SD-SD and SE-SE should be greater than 10 mm to satisfy European regulations.
- Wheel Guard Req. :- The value of a shall be more than 5 mm at a line 30 deg forward and 50 deg rearward from the central vertical axis of the axis of the wheel.
- US Regulation:-

- Clearance check is made at all the positions from -100 deg to 100 deg along with preparing the clearance table.
- All the values should be greater than 5 mm at all these locations.
- Wheel Guard Req. :- The value of a shall be more than 5 mm at a line 30 deg forward and 50 deg rearward from the central vertical axis of the wheel's axis.
European Regulation check on the given CAD file:-
In section SA-SA:-

L = 9.9490 mm
In section SB-SB:-

L = 10 mm
In section SC-SC:-

L = -0.113949
In section SD-SD:-

L = -2.8875 mm
In section SE-SE:-

L = -5.9973 mm
'a' value at 30 degrees:-

'a' value at 50 degrees:-

|
Section |
Clearance |
Result |
|
SA-SA |
9.9490 mm |
Fail |
|
SB-SB |
10 mm |
Marginal |
|
SC-SC |
-0.113949 mm |

|
SD-SD |
-2.8875 mm |

|
SE-SE |
-5.9973 |

Conclusion :-
- Only the clearance values in the SB-SB section and the 'a' values at the 30-degree forward and 50-degree rearward sections show conformity with the European Regulation, while, the clearances in the rest of the section need to be modified.
