Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
AIM:
Calculate the Wheel Arch gap at required points and check whether the car passes the European standard.
IN ORDER TO CALCULATE THE WHEEL ARCH GAP I NEED TO SKECTH ON WHEEL ARCH AND MAKE SOME POINTS TO CALCULATE DIFFERENCE BY MEASURING THE PONTS I HAVE MADE .
- European Regulations Requirement:
- Take the outline of the wheel and the fender.
- Make the centre of the wheel circle.
- Draw horizontal and vertical perpendicular axes from the centre of the wheel circle.
- Draw lines at 30 degrees and 50 degrees from the centre.
- Make a point on the fender line at 150mm from the horizontal.
- Extend a line to this point from the centre.
- Then make a line that is exactly between the 50-degree line and the line made on the 150mm point.
Measure the distances between the points on the wheel circle and fender curve. All of these should be greater than 10mm to satisfy the European regs.
Secondly, the horizontal distances from SA, SB, and SC points to the fender curve should be at least 5mm.
Table:

THE ABOVE GIVEN TABLE SHOULD SATISFIED IN ORDER TO REACH THE EUROPEAN WHEEL ARCH GAP
Need to Check whether the design passes these conditions and conclude whether it can pass the European Regulations Requirement.
Challenge:
VALUE OF L AT B SECTION
VALUE OF L AT A SECTION
VALUE OF L AT C SECTION
VALUE OF L AT D SECTION
VALUE OF L AT E SECTION
THE VALUES AT C,D AND E SECTIONS ARE NEGATIVE VALUES.
THE FENDER FAILS AS THE VALUES DOES NOT LIE IN BETWEEN THE VALUES OF THE EUROPEAN STANDARD.
- Now to find the horizontal distance between the wheel and the fender. This distance should be at least 5mm from SA point, SB point,
- Project the made sketch onto the plane of the wheel and measure the distance.
the belove given screen for SB point distance.

the belove given screen for SC point distance.

- the horizontal distances from SA, SB, and SC points to the fender curve should be at least 5mm.
- so after measuring the distance of SB and SC is more than 5mm than it is satisfied.
conclusion:
- THE VALUES AT C,D AND E SECTIONS ARE NEGATIVE VALUES.
- THE FENDER FAILS AS THE VALUES DOES NOT LIE IN BETWEEN THE VALUES OF THE EUROPEAN STANDARD.
- THE HORIZONTAL DISTANCE FROM SA , SB AND SC IS ALREDY MORE THAN 5MM SO IT IS SATISFIED.
