FRONT FENDER DESIGN
INTRODUCTION
FENDER
Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.
TYPES OF FENDER
- Full Bumper type
- Half Bumper type
Full Bumper type
Full bumper type is not used nowadays bescause they requires bigger size blank to produce the pat & the large scrap is also produced.
Half bumper
In half bumper type the scrap quantity is reduced & we can produce two parts at same time by slightly increasing the size of the blank.
MOUNTING REGIONS IN FRONT FENDER
- Drip area
- Sill mount area
- Bumper mount area
- A- piller mount area
- Wheel arc mount area
1.Drip area
It is the critical mounting area located inside the engine component. Designed according to the master section provided and optimal opening angle is maintained to make it look well assembled from outside. Minimum clearance from head lamp and cowl part is maintained. Vertical distance of the drip mounting is maintained less than 60mm to avoid the spring back effect.
It is the area through which fender is attached to engine housing through fasteners
From back side of front fender, there will be 200mm clearance for cowl(wiper motor) mounting area.
From front side of front fender, there will be 150mm clearance for head lamp housing unit
Drip area will not reach the engine assembly due to restriction of 40mm length, so there will some L-Shaped Bracket to connect with it.
Master sections to follow to create the Drip Area

2.Sill mount area
The mounting area at the panel(metal plate) directly below the bottom of the door supporting the floor and may be used to combine floor and body.

3.Bumper mount area
A mounting area of fender to bumper (horizontal bar fixed across the front or back of a motor vehicle to reduce damage in a collision).

4.A- piller mount area
The A pillars on your car hold either side of the front windscreen in place. They are the ones you see as you look straight at the car from the front

5.Wheel arc mount area
