Fender Design Challenge

Aim: To design a fender using NXCAD software by using the master sketch which is provided.

INTRODUCTION OF FENDER:

The main purpose of the fender is to prevent sand, rocks, liquids,and other road spray from being thrown into air by the rotating tire.

there are two types of fender

1 full bumber type

2 half bumber type

• now a days we are mostly using half bumper type, the reason for choosing the half bumper type is that when we choose the full bumber type the blank used for creating it is very large and also has the lot of wastagebu t in the case of the half bumper type we have the possibility to reduce the scrap.this is what we called as scrap management
• In half bumper type we reduce the usage of the steel materialand uses the lot of plastic on the bumper which in term decrease the cars weight and increase the performance

FENDER MOUNTING REGION

Main mounting region on fender:

1.A piller mounting

2.Body mounting

3.sill mounting

4.Bumper mounting

5.Drip mounting

DESIGN PROCEDURE:

Design of sill mounting:

• sill munting is directly below the bottom of the door supporting the floor and may be used to combine the floor and the body
• the bottom end of the fender is mounted in the sill body for reinforcement of the fender panel and also mounting the holes and emboss and in that holes fasteners are used to fix the fender on the sill body

Design of drip area mounting:

• It is the important mounting of the fender. it is connected with the engine part. so lot of design constraints are to be followed while designing the fender
• while desiging the drip area we have to initially leave 200-300mm for cowl top
• cowl top part consists wiper motor instruments
• for placing the headlamp we need to leave the distance minimum 150 mm at the front
• two darts are added on the flange of the drip area in order to provide the stiffness and strength to the part and also helps to prevents vibration and nosises during the motion of the vehicle
• embossing are provoded on the mounting to strengthen them during fastenging

Design of bumper mounting:

• bumper mounting area is used to fix the plastic bumper to the fender with the help of the fastener

Design of A piller mounting:

• A piller is the structural pillar that combines te body to the roof this makes the sides of the wind shield rest

Design of baffle mounting:

• baffle mounting or mudguard are clip fit type of mounting on the inner side of the fender arch over the tyre. baffle mounting povides the car engine compartment and pedestrains from causing injuries from the chip out debris on the road when vehicle is in motion and these are made up of plastics

After finishing the entire part given thickness of 0.75mm

Conclusion: Finally design of fender is done wit the help of NXcad by following the master sketch
