Fender Design Challenge
AIM : To design a Car front FENDER according to engineering standard with the help of given skin data
FENDER
- Fender is the part of Automoble/Vehicle body that frames the wheel properly with some measurements.
- Its basic purpose is to prevent sand, dirt, rocks and other road-side particles from being thrown into the air by the rotating tyres.
- Fenders are typically rigid and strong to protect the wheel as shield.
- Types of FENDER - Full Bumper Type , Half Bumper Type

MOUNTING OF FENDER
- DRIP AREA MOUNT
- BAFFLE / BODY MOUNT
- SILL MOUNT
- BUMPER MOUNT
- A-PILLAR MOUNT
A-PILLAR MOUNTING
The A-Pillar is the structural pillar that combines the body to the roof. This makes the side of the wind shield rest. The front Fender is fastened to the A-Pillar to form a robust structure.
- OFFSET the curve = 5mm over the surface
- use CURVE ON SURFACE with G1 (tangent) , TRIM SHEET, LOW EXTENSION command
- Create the Datum plane by using CURVE & POINTS (by selecting three points)
- sketch on the datum plane to create the EMBOSE
- Cut circular mountings and apply Edge Blend
- make DART for increase the strength of the mounting.
DRIP AREA
This is attached with the car body and near to the engine compartment.
- use CURVE ON SURFACE with G1 (tangent) , TRIM SHEET command
- use LAW EXTENSION, TRIM SHEET
- use EDGE BLEND as the given data
- Create a Datum plane and make a sketch for EMBOSS
- use TRIM SHEET for circular mountings
- apply Edge Blend
- create the DART
BUMPER SIDE MOUNTING
Bumper mounting area is to fix the plastic bumper to the Fender with the help of fastner.
SILL MOUNTING
It is the panel, directly below the bottom of door supporting. The bottom end of Fender is mounted on the SILL body for the reinforcement of the Fender panel.
- Extend the sheet for creating the proper EMBOSS.
- create Datum plane and make a sketch (sketches should be fully constrained)
BAFFLE MOUNTINGS
In the Baffle areas, the holes are created which allows the Baffle to be fitted with good tolerance. The Baffle mountings are clip type of mounting on the inner side of Fender Arch over the tyre. It protects the car engine compartment and padestrian from causing enjuries.
