Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Draft Analysis on a Fan Cover

Report: Creating Tooling Axis, Draft analysis of a given Fan cover model -

Draft Analysis - It is the method of checking the draft angle on various surfaces of a part/body.

minimum draft angle = 3 degree

Tooling axis - It is the axis upon which the core and the cavity- open/close during the injection/ejection of molding.

Steps :-

  • To check the continuity of a class A surface -

The continuity is checked by the Join or Boundary . It shows the surface is fully joined or any type discontinuity is present there.

the boundary shows, the surface is continuous and it can be modify for the part creation.

  • Tooling Axis direction :-

In this step, we have to decide on which plane/axis the part is suitable for the tooling axis.

eg - above hole, we have to go for Z-direction, for that we choose XZ-plane and intersect the part by Intersection tool .

Now, create the dummy axis for getting the desired Tooling Axis. It is in green colour.

from above, create two lines by point to point direction and by using line bisecting method we get our final tooling axis; X-direction.

Similarly, we repeat the procedure in YZ- plane for getting our desired Tooling axis; Y-direction .

Now, we use Publication tool to get the exact point axis in XYZ direction. It provides easy accessible without adding any geometrical sets & then By using bisecting these X,Y-tooling axis, we get our final tooling axis.

Draft Analysis :-

go to insert - Analysis - Feature Draft Analysis and by using Customize view parameter apply the material.

Use compass icon tool and Analyses under the running point for the allignment with the tooling axis. We will get the green colour surface. the minimum draft angle is 3 degree.
