Fender Design Challenge

AIM : Create the Drip area and other mounting for FENDER.

OBJECTIVE :

• To create a Drip area mounting as per the Master Sketch.
• To create A-Pillar, Bumper, Sill, Splash mountings.

FENDER :

• Fender is the part of automobile that frames a wheel well.
• Its primery purpose is to prevent sand, mud,rocks,liquid and other road spray being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.
• When vehicle is moving, tire pick up stone and other and hurl them in all direction, fender are basically present to prevent any injuries to pedestrians and contain the motion of these particles.
• Most passenger automobile have four fender one over each wheel. For vehicle with a narrow car body that exposes the tire, the fender is an exposed crve over the top of tire. For wide body vehicle that cover the tire, the fender forms wheel well surrounding the tire and is not directly visible from the above car body.

TYPE :

• 1. FULL BUMPER TYPE :

• Full bumper fender is not used nowdays because they required bigger size blank to produce the part and waste material is also there while manufacturing.

• 2. HALF BUMPER TYPE :

• Half bumper fender is used because the waste of material is less & can produce two fender at the same timeby slightly increasing the raw sheet and to reduce weight & cost mostly bumper fender are been produced.

MOUNTING :

There are 5 mounting points where we fastened the fender with the vehicle body.

1. Body
2. A-Pillar
3. Sill
4. Crowl
5. Drip

Drip Area :

• It is the most important mounting unit of a fender. It is connected with the engine compartment and therefore a lot of design constraints are to be followed while designing the drip area.
• It should have sufficient clearance from the front and rear end of the fender accommodate the crowl mounting region and the headlamp housing unit respectively.

MASTER SKETCH :

• As per master sketch the distannce between headlamp region to drip area is minimum 150 mm.
• Also the distance between Starting point of A-Pillar and End point of Drip area is 150-300 mm.

OTHER MOUNTINGS :

The mountings for Bumper, A-Pillar, Sill and Flush are desiged as per the engineering standards along with relief.
