FENDER DESIGN
WHAT IS FENDER?
- Generally ,It is a sheet metal body panel located between front door & the bonnet.
- Fender is the US english term for the part of an automobile that frames a wheel well.
- Its primary purpose is to prevent sand,mud,rocks,liquids,and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tyre.
- when vehicle is moving,tyres pick up stones and others and hurl them in all directions.fenders are basically present to prevent any injuries to pedestrians and contain the motion of these particles.
- most passenger automobiles have 4 fenders,one over each wheel.for vehicles with a narrow car body that exposes the tyre,the fender is exposed curve over the top of the tyre.for wide body vehicles that cover the tyre,the fender forms the wheel well surrounding the tyre,and is not directly visible from above the car body.
- wheel wells tend to be much larger than the diameter of the tyre, because they don't move with the suspension and consequently must be large enough to allow the full range of the tyre motion on the suspension without touching the interior of the wheel well.
- More elaborate designs include fender skirts for enclosing the outside edge of the wheel well,and stylized pontoon fenders for exposed fenders.
- Another important point about fender is that it is the only part among all BIW parts of automobile which uses Bolting for joining purpose.
- over the years fenders has been evolved so much in its shape yet it is categorized into two main types full bumper type & Half-bumper types.

Mountings are basically provided to fit in fender in a suggested region properly with proper clearance with its adjacent parts.
THE FINAL OUTCOME
Assumptions:
Material thickness =0.65 mm
BUMPER SIDE MOUNTING :-
Nowadays half bumper Fenders connected to bumper side via bolting,to held it connected firm with bumper side.
A-PILLAR SIDE MOUNTING:-
It connects fender with A-pillar with proper clearance for front windshield.
SILL SIDE MOUNTING :
Sometimes, SILL SIDE MOUNTING region is kept straight or at an angle inward due to space considerations but here I kept straight and outside,with bolting.
MOUNTING FOR BAFFLE SIDE:
These Mountings are provided to satisfy one of main function of fender.baffles are attached to fender and act as a casing over wheel to restrict entry of mud particles and small stones to enter into inner region as stated earlier. The baffles are mounted on fender with the help of plastic clips.
DRIP MOUNTING SIDE:
Drip side mounting region is also a one most critical portion in fender.it connects fender with engine compartment via bolting.the design is done considering the points highlighted in master section .
