DESIGN OF FRONT FENDER-

OBJECTIVE- To develop the front fender using Nx cad/Catia V5 following the design parameters.

INTRODUCTION:

A fender (also known as a wing or quarter panel) is the body panel that covers the wheel well and is located above the tire. Its primary function is to protect the wheel and tire from road debris, water, and mud, as well as to enhance the aerodynamics of the vehicle.

Fenders can be made of various materials such as steel, aluminum, or plastic, and can come in different styles and shapes depending on the design of the vehicle. They are typically attached to the body of the car with bolts or screws and can be easily removed and replaced if they become damaged or worn out.

Types of Fender

Fender is basically of 2 types.

  • Full Bumper type
  • Half Bumper type

Presently we are using half bumper type. The reason is when we were using a full bumper type fender, the blank which we were using is very big, and we have quite a lot of wastage from the blank. But in the case of the half-bumper type, the case is the opposite. Here the amount of scrap production is very low. Because the material can makes a major role in automotive industries. when we are using the full bumper type it requires more material and the weight of the car also increased. so because of that reason, we use half bumper type.

Design Features of Fender:

Mounting Area

  1. Bumper
  2. Drip
  3. A-Pillar
  4. Sill
  5. Baffle

Drip Area :

In a car, the drip area (also known as the drip rail) is a channel or groove that runs along the roofline of the car's body. Its primary function is to prevent water from entering the passenger compartment of the vehicle by channeling rainwater and other forms of precipitation away from the doors and windows.

A-Pillar:

The A-pillar is the structural pillar that combines the body with the roof. this makes the sides of the windshield rest. front fenders are fastened to the A-pillar to form a robust structure.

Sill Area:

The sill area in a car is the part of the car's body that runs along the bottom edge of the doors. It is also known as the rocker panel or side skirt.

The sill area plays an important role in protecting the car's interior from road debris and water. It also helps to reinforce the car's body structure and provide additional rigidity to the car's chassis.
