Fender Design

Fender design

Fender is part of automobile ,motorcyle or other vehicle body that frame a wheel well .Its primary purpose is to protect sand ,mud ,rocky liquids and other road spray from being into the air or engine compartment by rotating tires It is also used for pedestrian safety.

1. Design Drip Area,

2. Design Sill Mount Area

3. Design Body Mount Area

4. Design Bumper Mount Region and A-pillar mount Region.

As per the master section provided drip area should be atleast 150 mm from bumper mount region and atmost 200 mm from the A pillar region beause there shall be head light assembly mount near bumper area nad wifer motor and other parts near the a pillar area so this much space is must be provided.

for the drip area mounting design as per the master section .

Initially we have to provide surface law extension of 8 mm inclined at 40 degree and verticall extension for proper mounting and inclination from vertical surface for hiding weld nuts in mounting space

For drip area to be mount , emboss must be flate. To creat flate emboss first make a plane using point and curve method

Ribs or dart is provided to strenght the mount at drip area so that it can withstand the load properly without damage while vibration

At sill area its not required to provide emboss as , it is going to be mount by push pins so only holes slots are required to assemble sill area mountings.

The space around weld nuts should be enought flate surafce so that it can properly mount ,its around 5 mm space should be there for mounting

The vertical value for law of extension near drip area is around 40 mm as most of the tool for weld nuts or other can work til 40 mm or less sot it is mendatory to provide it for proper installation

SILL MOUNTING

This mounting is use to link the fender with the sill (underside of the door) of the car. Emboss & holes are given to attach the fender to sill.

BUMPER MOUNTING

A mounting area of the fender to bumper. Bumpers are usually made of plastic which covers the front of the car & protect it at time collisions. Emboss & holes are given to attach the fender to Bumper.

A-PILLAR MOUNTING

The mounting of this area is a joint where we have to ensur that the hole provided for mounting the fender shouldn't affect the clearence at the joint and the aesthethics of the vehicle.
and also provideing the single hole to redure the complexity while mounting.

SPLASH COVER MOUNTING

There are additional holes are provided to support the fender lining. it is a Plastic which is used as a barrier between fender & outside particles, dust, rocks. Plastic cover is used to protect the dust & rock and it is mounted on Fender via Trim clips.

Manufacturing process for car fender

A car Fender bumper is made by a process called reaction injection molding (RIM), which basically consists of making a special polyurethane compound and introducing it into a large fender. RIM is a process that conserves raw materials and reduces costs

Design criteria:-

-Embosses are provided to increase the strength.

-Smooth curves are designed for the easy manufacturing of panels.

-Ribs are provided to the drip area mount to give structural support
