BACKDOOR CHALLENGE

Aim:
To create the back door assembly using the provided outer class-A surface and perform the draft analysis operation on the inner panel using the NX cad.

Introduction
It is back covering part of the car and also known as tailgate. During the designing one must ensure that impact from the back, should not affect the passenger seating in the car. It is consists of inner panel, outer panel and other components. It can be manufactured by steel as well as aluminium, however the cast of the aluminum will be high but less weight.

Criteria for the designing the backdoor
 Rear visibility criteria
 Luggage area
 Thickness range 0.65-0.75

OUTER PANNEL OF THE BACK DOOR

BACK DOOR SEALING FLANGE

Orange colour part is the sealing flange, it provid the tight clossing of the door. As well it restrict the water coming inside of the car.

BACKDOOR INNER PANNE

INNER PANNEL WITH THE EMBOSSES & REINFORCEMENT
The reinforcement are provided to improve the strength of the back door. It should be provided, because it is going to operate the many number of cycle (fatigue-open and close operation). The reinforcement thickness should kept more for the more strength.

Hemming

This operation is used to connect the outer pannel with the inner pannel. On the very sharp corner relif must be provided.

The draft analysis satisfying the manufacturing criteria (draft angle more then 7 deg).

Conclusion

As per the given class A surface, back door assembly was done with all the parts and draft analysis was performed on the inner panel to check the manufacturability.
