Design of backdoor
Objective:
1)To create Back door design from given class A surface .
2) To provide reinforcements and emboss wherever required
Introduction:
A car door is a type of door opening, typically hinged on its front edge, but sometimes attached by other mechanisms such as tracks, for entering and exiting a vehicle. Doors most often integrate side windows for visibility from inside the car and can be locked to secure the vehicle.
Car doors may be manually operated or with power assist supplied by the vehicle. Powered doors or power doors may be found on minivans, luxury vehicles or modified cars.

Backdoor or tailgate typically consists of an outer panel and inner panel both made of sheet metal .
While constructing or designing these panels,we need to consider the following factors
a) Rear Visibility
There should be enough visibility for the driver through the backdoor
b) Draft angle for sheet metal manufacture
Minimum draft angle of 7 degree should be provirded inorder to make the component manufacturable
c) Latch and striker allignment
The latch should follow a circular motion from the hinge axis to ensure it alligns with striker
d) Reinforcement for hinges and gas stay
Emboss should be provided to strengthen these areas
e) Relief for hemming
Reliefs should be provided at corners
f) Boot space
Design should be done with idea of provoding maximum boot space available
Procedure :
Given outer panel

Inner panel created from offsetting outer panel

Reinforcements for hinges and gas stay

Rear Viper motor reinforcement

Rear door trajectory

Draft analysis

Reliefs for hemming

Complete assembly of outer and inner panel
