Design of backdoor
Backdoor Modeling
Introduction
Backdoor is the closure component at the back of the car which enables to open and close for enter into the car from rear of the car.The Backdoor has different types of designes out of which we will be doing the modeling for a hatchback backdoor.
The main parts of the backdoor are
Backdoor outer panel
Backdoor inner panel
Hinge reinforcements etc
In this challenge we have to model other components as per the input class A surface given.
Methodology
We will be given with the backdoor Class A surface. We need to convert this into a proper class A srface because the given surface is not proper and has discontinuities in it.
Here also we will be modeling as a Top down assembly. We will start a new assembly and into the assembly add the class A surface as a new part.
Then other parts such Backdoor Inner panel, Backdoor outer upper,Backdoor outer lower etc are started.
We can start with the backdoor inner panel.
We have to use the wave geometry linker to link the class A surface as a reference surface into the Backdoor inner panel.

The backdoor inner panel is modelled in Catia and is shown in the image given below.

Backdoor Outer panel upper is modelled

Backdoor Outer panel Lower.

The different tools used for modelling the backdoor is as follows.
- Parallel Curve
- Trim
- Split
- join
- Offset
- Extract
- Multiextract
- boundary
- curve smooth
- project curve
- Sweep-with reference surface and draw direction
- multi section surface
- blend
- shape fillet
- Edge Fillet
- Measure etc.
The same is modelled in NX cad and is shown below.

The backdoor inner panel is as shown in the image below.

Backdoor outer panel upper

Backdoor outer panel lower

The tools that are used for modelling the backdoor in NX cad are as follows.
- Wave geometry linker
- Offset surface
- Extract geometry
- Offset curve in suface
- Curve on surface
- Datum plane
- Bridge curve
- Studio spline
- Offset curve
- Trim curve
- Project curve
- intersection curve
- Face blend
- edge blend
- Studio surface
- Through curve
- Through curve mesh
- Trim sheet
- Trim and Extend
- Extend sheet
- Sew
- Thicken
- Emboss
- Law Extension etc
The sections that are modelled include the Hinge mount.

Then Gas stay mounts are modelled.

Rear wiper motor mount

Mastic area support.

Embosses

Striker mounting area

Striker mounting area is calculated by finding the path of travel of the backdoor around the hinges.
after modelling draft analysis is done for hood inner panel because the hood inner panel will be made out of stamping process.

Draft analysis is done and all the portions are green in colour .This means that this part is easy to produce.
Conclusion
Backdoor Assembly is modeled in Catia and NX cad software.
