Creating Conceptual mass in REVIT and Creation of Sinusoidal curve and a Parametric stadium using Dynamo

Introduction of Dynamo :-

  • Dynamo is an open source visual programming language for Revit, written by designers and construction professionals.
  • It is a programming language that allows you to type lines of code; while also creating an algorithm that consists of nodes.
  • Using Dynamo, you can work with enhanced BIM capabilities in Revit.
  • Dynamo and Revit together can be utilized to model and analyze complex geometries, automate repetitive processes, minimize human error, and export data to Excel files and other file-types not typically supported by Revit.
  • Dynamo can make the design process more efficient, with an intuitive interface and many pre-made scripting libraries available as well.
  • The user interface for Dynamo is organized into five main areas, the largest being the workspace where programs are processed. The user interface sections include:
     Main menu
     Toolbar
     Library
     Workspace
     Execution bar

Question :- 1

Using Dynamo create a set of sinusoidal points and create a curve and create a surface out of the curve.

Aim:-

  • To create a set of sinusoidal points and create a curve and create a surface out of the curve using Dynamo.

Procedure :-

  • Open Revit 2023.
  • Go to Manage Tool.
  • Open Dynamo in Visual programming.

  • Start the process by inserting 3 interger Sliders by typing Integer slider in search Panel.
  • Name all 3 Codes. Star, End and Step.

  • Now type Range and insert theblock.

  • Now connect All 3 integers to the Range Block.

  • Search Points By Coordinates and connect the Range to the Points By Coordinates.

  • Now we have to produce Sin wave to the points.
  • For that we have to insert Sin function by Searching math.Sin in Search Box.

  • Sin values are too small, for that we need to amplify it.
  • Insert the integer Slider.
  • Add the Points By Coordinates.
  • Now add the multiplier.
  • Join the blocks as per requirements.

  • Now add another Points By Coordinates and Connect it wit hal l3 axis.

  • Now this is then convert it to the Curve.
  • It can be done by NurbsCurve.
  • Connect the points by coordinate block as input for NurbsCurve.
  • A lne will be develpoed connecting the Points.
  • Noe create the list and connect the both the lines.
  • Add the Polysurface by loft.
  • And connect the Geometry.

Result :-

  • Created a set of sinusoidal points and also created a curve and created a surface out of the curve using Dynamo.

Question :- 2

Create a conceptual layout of floor plan in dynamo . Using the tools available in dynamo link the lines to appropriate model elements in Revit by choosing the wall types and wall parameters. Make use of the sliders to slide through the height of the wall and length of the wall.

Aim:-

  • To Create a conceptual layout of floor plan in dynamo using the tools available in dynamo and choosing the wall types and wall parameters.

Procedure :-

  • Open Revit 2023.
  • Go to Manage Tool.
  • Open Dynamo in Visual programming.

  • Start the process by inserting 2 interger Sliders by typing Integer slider in search Panel.
  • Name all 2 Codes. X and Y.
  • Insert Point By Coordinates.
  • And Name them as per all 4 point coordinates of the Square Wall.

  • Now insert 4 Line by Start Point End Point by typing Line by Start Point End Point in search Panel.
  • Input the Points as Lines are connected and create a Square.

  • Now create the List.
  • Join all 4 Lines to the List.
  • Now insert the Wall by Curve and Height.
  • Parameters of Wall by Curve and Height are Curve, Height, Wall Type and Levels.
  • For that Insert Integer Slider for Height of wall.
  • Insert Levels and Wall Type.
  • Connect all 4 with Wall by Curve and Height.
  • Upto this Coding, Square Wall is Created.

  • Now insert the Floor at Floor Level.
  • Now insert The Floor Type Block.
  • Choose floor Type.
  • Insert Floor by Outline type and Level.
  • Parameters of Outline type and Level are Outline Curves, Floor Type and Levels.

  • Floor is Created.

Result :-

  • Created a conceptual layout of floor plan in dynamo using the tools available in dynamo and choosing the wall types and wall parameters.

Question :- 3

Create an array of model elements in Revit. Use dynamo to vary the properties of model elements by using the slider or code block.

Aim:-

  • To Create an array of model elements in Revit by using Dynamo.

Procedure :-

  • Open Revit 2023.
  • Go to Manage Tool.
  • Open Dynamo in Visual programming.
  • Place Architecture Column in Athe Architecture template.
  • Copy the Column with Array and make it 4 columns.

  • Now Go to Dynamo in Visual programming.
  • Start the process by inserting Select Model Elements by Select Model Elements in search Panel.
  • Choose select option in Select Model Elements.
  • Copy all the Columns in Select Model Elements.
  • Insert Integer Slider as The rotation Angle.
  • Insert Family Instance.Set rotation.
  • Merge the Select Model Elements and Integer Slider to the Family Instance.Set rotation.

  • So the angle of the columns are changed.
  • You can manage the angle by integer Slider.

Result :-

  • Created an array of model elements in Revit by using Dynamo.

Question :- 4

Create a conceptual mass in Revit and develop a parametric column by dividing the surfaces and apply the concepts similar to used in parametric walkway modelling. Use triangular bent or square shaped panels to add finish to the parametric column

Aim:-

  • To Create a conceptual mass in Revit and develop a parametric column by dividing the surfaces and apply the concepts similar to used in parametric walkway modelling and use triangular bent or square shaped panels to add finish to the parametric column.

Procedure :-

  • Open Revit 2023.
  • From File menu select the Conceptual Mass option.
  • Select Metric Mass option.

  • Go to East View.
  • Create the level at the offset of 12'.

  • Draw the Spline as per your views.

  • Now, create a profile to sweep through curve.
  • Set the workplanes at the points and develpo a Polygon at the points.

  • Create the surface which done through Sweep.
  • Select all polygons and curve lines and choose create Form option.

  • Now select the Form.
  • Divide Surface.
  • Provide pattern of triangle Bent.

Result :-

  • Created a conceptual mass in Revit and developed a parametric column by dividing the surfaces and applied the concepts similar to used in parametric walkway modelling and used triangular bent or square shaped panels to add finish to the parametric column.
