BENCHMARKING

It is the process of comparison of a particular product to another,to differentiate and analyse the current flaws and goods and hence to improve by gaining insights.. Benchmarking can measure the quality and effectiveness of policies, programs, services, products and processes within an organization and help leaders and team members improve business operations and outcomes.

In an automobile industry it is done before the development of a vehicle, to know the positive and negative aspects of a vehicle. Automotive benchmarking refers to the systematic comparison of processes, services, and products in the automobile industry. This involves intensive research and even collaboration of companies to compare their processes, services, and products being offered to the public.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BENCHMARKING

There are different types of benchmarking based on which type of quality of the product we want to compare,which are;

• Performance benchmarking:Performance benchmarking is the process of measuring and analyzing an organization's performance of products, services, operations, and other business processes against other companies, competitors, or industry leaders. It helps businesses identify and understand areas for improvement.
• Process benchmarking:Process benchmarking constitutes comparing and analyzing your business processes with those the processes that are considered the best practices in the industry. When comparing, it is crucial that the nature of the processes be similar so that comparing makes sense.
• Strategic benchmarking:Compares the strategies of successful businesses with those of your own, It helps you define strategic goals and steps forward for better results. Competitive Benchmarking – Compares your metrics directly to your competitors' metrics.
• External benchmarking:External Benchmarking is simply comparing one organization to another. Many government organizations want to know what other comparable jurisdictions are doing, because they want to see their performance in context.
• Internal benchmarking: Internal benchmarking is a process in which a company or an organisation looks within its own business to try and determine the best practice or methodology for conducting a particular task. The aim is to find the best practice available to get the job done with minimum effort or resources
• Generic benchmarking: The process of analyzing two companies in different industries and comparing their general business functions. This refers to any type of function or feature that's common across industries, such as website functionality, hiring practices and administrative processes.
• Operational benchmarking:involves identifying the best practices in the industry and then comparing them with the current practices in the company and making recommendations for change. This is a two step process. Benchmark activities against the industry best practices.

CASE STUDY

Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, a five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. After carrying out brnchmarking of the suggested cars in the given price range and comparing it to each other in different specifications wise,I came to a conclusion that TOYOTA GLANZA is an affordable and also a safe car to purchase for the type of usage the buyer has.

It has a better a mileage compared to three of other cars and also provides much more safety specifications.Its other specifications like boot space and ground clearance are also comparitively good.Max.engine power and max. torque are also comparitevely good in the price range.So considering the better safety specifications TOYOTA GLANZA is the car that iam going to suggest top the buyer.
