1. Benchmark with presently available cars in the market for the following case.
Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, a five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him options so that he will buy a good car for his family.
Note: Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars
2. Prepare a report explaining what is Bench-Marking
3. Compare at least 4 vehicles.
4. Provide a proper conclusion for the report, suggesting a single suitable vehicle among the comparison made with images.
Benchmark
Benchmarking involves a structured comparison between similar products, services or processes on some dimensions of performance. For example, it can be used to compare the availability and delivery of
features in a product and in this form often provides the basis of consumer tests and reviews. These look at products and services and provide recommendations based on which is best or some form of ranking
amongst competitors.
1. Performance benchmarking involves gathering and comparing quantitative data (i.e., measures or key performance indicators). Performance benchmarking is usually the first step organizations take to identify performance gaps.
2. Practice benchmarking involves gathering and comparing qualitative information about the product (for instance product i.e., car - comparative price, comfort, features, etc. )
3. Internal benchmarking involves gathering and comparing internal information about the product (for instance product i.e., car - the fabric used for upholstery, plastic material quality, leg room, seating comfort, etc )
4. External benchmarking involves gathering and comparing external information about the product (for instance product i.e., car - body shape, paint quality, panel gaps, vehicle segment, etc.)
Case Study
As a hypothetical situation has been provided where Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii wants to buy a vehicle that suits his requirement however his requirement is not clear because the only Statement of Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii about the car is he likes a 'Big Car'. So to find the best suitable car for him we to analyze the given detail about Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii and list out the requirement. Following are the requirement that we have found out from the given data:-
1. He likes Big Car:- CAR may be SUV, Cross over, Sedan, or Big segment hatchback.
2. His Family comprises five members:- 5 seater vehicle.
3. He will be using his car to commute to his office:- It must offer good mileage, Electric or CNG may be perfect.
4. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road:- Compared to the 2023 vehicle price range, the given budget is a constraint, therefore SUV and premium segment sedans must be out of our search list, also the electric vehicle will also be out of our budget.
5. He lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city:- Because of this reason our search mostly runs around Crossovers, Compact sedans, and Big hatchbacks.
6. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500 km away from Bangalore once a month:- For this purpose vehicle must have better setting comfort, large boot space, good mileage, and availability of vehicle centers along the root.

But when we took it on fast-moving highways where the vehicle stability, structural strength and Global NCAP rating matter most. On this ground Wagon R fails to satisfy Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii requirement of travelling a long journey. If Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii buys Wagon R, he may save more on fuel and maintenance but he will never fill safe while traveling along with his family on high-speed highways.
