OBJECTIVE
The main objective of this project is to Design a 3D model of an METAL BRACKET from given 2D drawing using Siemens NX Sheetmetal Application
INTRODUCTION
Sheet metal is metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. Sheet metal is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking, and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes. Countless everyday objects are fabricated from sheet metal. Thicknesses can vary significantly, extremely thin sheets are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered Plate steel or Structural steel.
DESIGN METHODOLOGY
- PREPARING SKETCH
- TABING
- ADDING FEATURES
- UNBENDING AND ADDING FEATURES
- REBENDING AND ADDING FEATURES
- FLAT PATTERN
DESCRIPTION
FEATURES USED
SKETCH - LINE, RECTANGLE, CIRCLE, STUDIO SPLINE, POINT
Sketch is a 2D drawing used to create a 3D part. In the sketch there are many tools like Line, Rectangle, Circle, Point, etc.. required to create a complete drawing.
CONTOUR FLANGE
Contour flange command is used to create a flange as per given 2D profile with some thickness.
NORMAL CUTOUT
This feature is used to remove the extra material from the sheet metal part by the means of sketch.
BREAKING CORNERS
This feature is used to remove sharpe corners and make it into round edges with some radius.
UNBENDING
Unbending command is used to create a flat sheet metal piece of the whole part.
HOLE
hole command use to create a hole on one or more solid bodies in a part.
ADVANCED FLANGE
This feature is used to make a flang on Different tab profiles which does not have straight path.
REBENDING
Rebending command is used to bend the flat sheet metal part appered after the unbending process to get back into original shape.
FLAT SOLID
Flat pattern feature is used to create a flat sheet metal piece of the 3D modeled part, so that it can assure that the 3D sheet metal part to be created can be Manufactured.
FLAT PATTERN
It is the 2D drawing of the flat pattern with the complete detailes of the Features applied on the sheet metal to make a 3D part.
STEP BY STEP PROCESS
First the sketch is prepared by drawing in XZ plane as shown in figure below.

Then another sketch is made on ZY plane as shown in figure

Now a contour flange is created with the above sketch
