Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_2_Box Assembly

Title: Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_2_Box_Assembly

Objective: To design a Box Assembly using NX CAD Sheet metal commands and display it in a draft sheet.

Introduction: -

Sheet metal: The term “sheet metal” refers to any metal that can be formed into flat pieces of varying thicknesses. Thick metals are called plates. Metals used in the sheet metal industry include cold rolled steel, mild steel, stainless steel, tin, nickel, titanium, aluminum, brass, and copper.

Application: Sheet metal is a widely used material across several different industries. It can be crafted from an assortment of metals like steel, aluminum, copper, and brass and is versatile enough to be used in various applications, including industrial and manufacturing.

Design Methodology followed in the development of the Casing:-

Description of Features and commands used in the development of the Casing.

Commands used:-

1> Tab: Use to create the Base of the Casing.

2> Side Flanges: To provide a closed surface

3> Close Corner: TO provide Smooth Edges

4> Hemming: A sheet metal edge bending technique for the closure of another body, like here tthey are used for interlocking mechanism.

5> Mirror Body: To create a body identical to the original one at same distance

6> Unite: To join the two parts created after mirroring.

7> Dimple: It is created using the stamping method, this is a process undertaken to enhance the material properties and subsequent products' structural performance while maintaining a minimum strip thickness.

8> Bead: It adds to sheet metal to prevent warping and disfigurement by adding structural integrity to the metal.

9> Mirror Features: To create a copy of the original feature about an axis, thus reducing the time to create the same features multiple times.

10> Unbend: To create a flat surface for ease of designing.

11> Rebending: To again wrap the closed surface created by the bends.

12: Flat pattern: To create a base for drafting purposes in order to get a clear view of the product.

Conclusion: Sheet metal is used in automobile and truck (lorry) bodies, major appliances, airplane fuselages, and wings, tinplate for tin cans, roofing for buildings (architecture), and many other applications.

Therefore, such complex sheet metal design can be easily designed in Siemens NX Software using the above-mentioned commands.
