Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_1_Casing Design
Title- Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad
Objective- To design a Casing using NX Sheet Metal Application with its various features.
Introduction-
Sheet metal is metal formed into thin, flat pieces, usually by an industrial process. Sheet metal is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking, and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes.
Thicknesses can vary significantly; extremely thin sheets are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered plate, such as plate steel, a class of structural steel.
Design Methodology-

Description-
1. Tab

Creates a base feature by extruding a sketch along a vector by a thickness value, or adds material to a planar face. Additional planar selections can be added to generate bends as part of the base feature.

2. Normal Cutout

Cuts material by projecting a sketch onto the model and then cutting perpendicular to the faces intersected by the projection.

3. Bend feature

Modifies the model by bending material on one side of a sketch line, adding a bend between the two sides.

4. Flange

Adds a flat flange at an angle to a planar face and adds a bend between the two.

5. Break Corner

Rounds or chamfers a sharp corner of a tab or flange.

6. Unbend feature

Flattens a bend and the material adjacent to the bend.

7. Hole

Adds a hole to one or more solid bodies in a part or assembly with options for counterbored, countersunk, and threaded.

8. Dimple

Lifts an area of the model inside a sketch that simulates a stamping tool..

9. Bead

Lifts material along the contour of a sketch that simulates a stamping tool.

10. Mirror feature

Copies a feature and mirrors it across a plane.

11. Rebend

Drawing Sheet-

Conclusion-
In this challenge several basic features of NX Sheet Metal were made familiar which are required in any model to be created whether simple or complex.
Apart from features a practice of using and familiarizing with the controlling of the model has been achieved.
Drafting of the Drawing sheet was understood.
