SHEET METAL CASE DESIGNING
The Objective is to create a sheet metal casing by using modelling tools and features in Siemens NX-12.
INTRODUCTION : This report will take you to the explanatory procedure of modelling a sheet metal component in NX-12. All the tools and features related to the design procedure are explaind briefly.
The Approach to the design is simply shown in the form of flowchart below.
DESCRIPTION :
Sheet metal modelling is opened in NX-12 and the preferences of global parametres are set to 1 mm. Following are the features used to create a casing.
- Tab : This is used to create a base by extruding a sketch in particular direction or simply adds material giving thickness to a sketch.
- Normal Cutout : This feature eliminates the part of the model that intersects with the projection of sketch.
- Bend : It is used to modify a model by bending material at one side of a sketch line and gives a bend between two surfaces.
- Flange : It adds a flat flange with an angle to a plane surface and adds bend in between two.
- Break Corner : This forms a round shape or chamfer on a sharp corner of body.
- Unbend : It is used to flatten the bend and the material adjacent to it.
- Hole : It is used to create a hole in material.
- Dimple : This is used to lift an area of model inside the sketch that simulates the stamping tool.
- Bead : This is used to lift material along contour of sketch that simulates the stamping tool.
- Mirror : It is used to mirror features or parts along a line or plane.
- Rebend : It is used to restore the flattened bends and adjacent material to the actual position they were created earlier, along with features added to them after unbending.
- Flat Pattern : This creates a flat pattern in 2-D from the final sheet metal model.
- Drafting : It is used to plot the drawing of the model on sheet in desired orientation.
