Photo Realistic Rendering

CLASSIC AMERICAN CHOPPER

Objective :

  • The aim is to design parts, assemble them and then create an American Chopper using Solidworks and final rendering using PhotoView 360 and Visualize.

Introduction :

  • The entire approach towards the build of American Chopper is covered in this report, beginning from part modeling to assembly to rendering.
  • The flow will be carried out along with explaination of features used and part pictures for basic idea.

Design Methodology :

  • Parts to be modelled are :
  • Chassis
  • Engine
  • Pedal
  • Bike stand
  • Transmission belt
  • Oil tank
  • Rear wheel
  • Front wheel
  • Rear fender
  • Front fender
  • Chain
  • Gas tank
  • Front fork

Chassis :

  • Chassis is the frame of entire motorcycle on which every parts are fitted and it is designed in such a manner that it withholds load equally.

Commands used in chassis :

  • Sketch : It is used to draw a basic structure or profile of the object in 2 dimensions.
  • Boss extrude : It is used to entend a profile or sketch in a specific direction.
  • Fillet : It is used to make a corner of a sketch or an object, round with specific radius.
  • Split : It is used to split an object by using defined sketch or plane.
  • Project curve : It is used to create a curve in 3D by help of two different curves on defined planes.
  • Cut extrude : It is used to cut the extruded part with defined sketch.
  • Sweep : This is used to draw a part by the sketch profile guided by the defined path.

Engine :

  • Engine and motor are that part of the bike that generate power and transmit it to the rear wheel.

Commands used in engine :

  • Sketch
  • Boss extrude
  • Cut extrude
  • Fillet
  • Sweep
  • Project curve
  • Split
  • Mirror : It is used to mirror a part with reference to a plane, edge or face.
  • Linear pattern : it is used to duplicate or make a pattern of a specific part in defined linear path.

Pedal :

  • This part is used by the rider to rest foot while riding.

Commands used in pedal :

  • Sketch
  • Boss extrude
  • Linear pattern
  • Fillet
  • Chamfer : It is used to make a chamfer on a corner of the object with specific distance and angle.
  • Revolved boss : It is used to revolve a sketch in 360 degrees around a defined axis.

Bike stand :

  • Bike stand is used to rest a bike in leaning position when static.

Commands used in bike stand :

  • Sketch
  • Loft : Loft is used to make a profile by transition between two different profiles of different dimensions.
  • Dome : It is used to create a dome profile on a plane surface normal to it.
  • Boss extrude
  • Cut extrude
  • Split
  • Fillet

Transmission belt :

  • This is used to transmit power from crank shaft to gear box.

Commands used in transmission belt :

  • Sketch
  • Boss extrude
  • Fillet

Oil tank :

  • This part of the bike reserves oil in it.

Commands used in oil tank :

  • Sketch
  • Boss extrude
  • Combine : It is used to combine two different parts or simply add them.
  • Fillet
  • Shell : It is used to make a part hollow from inside, giving specific thickness to the outer cover.

Rear and Front wheel :

  • This are rotating parts on which bike propels and be on.

Commands used in rear wheel :

  • Sketch
  • Revolved boss
  • Boss extrude
  • Cut extrude
  • Circular pattern : It is used to pattern a part in defined circular path.
  • Revolved cut : It is used to cut a revolved boss with defined sketch.
  • Fillet
  • Chamfer

Rear and Front fender :

  • These are used to prevent the dirt and water that comes from rotating wheels.

Commands used in rear fender :

  • Sketch
  • Revolved boss
  • Split
  • Fillet
  • Shell

Chain :

  • This is used to transmit power from gear box to rear wheel.

Commands used in chain :

  • Sketch
  • Block : This is just a sketch profile that we can save and use it multiple times when needed.
  • Boss extrude
  • Curve pattern
  • Mirror

Gas tank :

  • It is used to store fuel which is used in engine to produce power.

Commands used in gas tank :

  • Sketch
  • Project curve
  • Surface loft : It is used to create a surface with help of two sketches.
  • Surface trim : It is used to trim off unwanted part in a surface.
  • Surface fill : It is used to fill surface in a closed definite region with reference elements.
  • Fillet
  • Knit : It is used to combine two surfaces together.

Front fork :

  • This is used as a governor of the bike and used to turn in direction required.

Commands used in front fork :

  • Sketch
  • Revolved boss
  • Boss extrude
  • Project curve
  • Sweep
  • Mirror

Assembly and Render :

  • All the designed parts are then inserted and assembled together with reference to chassis plane, so that all stay connected to eachother firmly.
  • The front fork is given a normal angle tilt, so that it looks realistic when in static condition.
  • Also, the entire bike is tilted and rested on bike stand.
  • Perspective view and cameras are set along with environment and background.
  • Final renders are created with PhotoView 360 and Visualize.

Conclusion :

  • Each part of the American Chopper has been designed, assembled together in Solidworks and rendered to get realistic previews in PhotoView 360 and Visualize.
