Top Universities for Vehicle Engineering in Europe

logo

Skill-Lync

Vehicle engineering is an interdisciplinary field that combines Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Railway and Marine engineering. Since not many universities offer vehicle engineering as a specialisation, a majority of the practitioners are from Mechanical or other related backgrounds. Only a handful of universities across the globe offer vehicle engineering as a course. In this article, I have picked five universities across Europe that offer Master’s in Vehicle Engineering: (Note – Order does not denote ranking)

Cranfield University – UK

Course offered – Autonomous Vehicle Dynamics and Control MSc

This course covers the fundamentals of vehicle dynamics, control, sensor fusion, communication, networking etc. The IRPs (Individual Research Projects) teaches a part of the course to provide real-world relevant information to the learners. The curriculum focusses on three areas: control systems, dynamics and autonomous systems&technology. Some of the research centres at Cranfield that are involved in Vehicle Engineering projects include:

KTH Royal Institute of Technology – Sweden

Course offered – Master’s programme in Vehicle Engineering

KTH is one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities. It has been ranked highest regularly as one of the top institutes of technology in Europe and internationally. In the Vehicle engineering program, students are taught about road and rail vehicles, their design, functions, dynamics, control, modelling and simulation etc.

Kaunas Institute of Technology (KTU) – Lithuania

Course offered – Master of Engineering Sciences in Vehicle Engineering

The Kaunas Institute of Technology is one of the leading research, development and innovation universities of Lithuania. The university has partnered with international organisations such as Baltech, CNC technologies and other overseas universities to provide industrial and internationally relevant education to its students. The MSc in Vehicle Engineering course at KTU focusses on the development of green vehicles, alternative fuels etc. The course is modelled such that the student can either master himself in a chosen traditional discipline or strengthen himself in an interdisciplinary field. Research is carried out by students and professors in the laboratories of Transportation and Mechatronic Systems, TRITOP equipment and VISSIM and VISUM software.

Széchenyi Istvan University (SZE) – Hungary

Course offered – Masters in Vehicle Engineering (MSc)

The SZE is located within the hub of European Automotive Industry and is, therefore, able to provide high-quality education at low cost. The city of Györ, where the university is located, is the home to the Audi Hungaria Motor Company. This company is ranked as the largest automotive plant globally and is responsible for design, development and manufacturing of engines for the AUDI AG and other companies of the Volkswagen group. The MSc in Vehicle engineering trains the engineers to be advanced technically. The coursework is strongly linked to the industry’s needs and the students trained by working on actual industrial projects during their studies. The AUDI Hungaria Faculty of Vehicle Engineering, which is the research faculty at the university functions in close cooperation with the AUDI Hungaria Motor company. The Vehicle Industry Research Centre (JKK) at SZE focuses on research in the fields of automotive, logistics, transport infrastructure etc.

Budapest University of Technology – Hungary

Course offered – Vehicle Engineering MSc

The Budapest University of Technology is an internationally reputed university and the alma mater to four Nobel laureates. It is the world’s oldest Institute of Technology and the first institute in Europe to train engineers at the university level. The institute is also responsible for shaping more than a dozen scientists including Josef Petzval (known for his work in optics), Donát Bánki (co-inventor of modern carburettor), Kálmán Kandó (inventor of the rotary phase converter) etc. The coursework at the university trains the engineers with knowledge and logistics in the field of transportation so that they can maintain and operate any vehicle. The students will be prepared to handle R&D tasks and managerial tasks as well. The BME Faculty of Transportation Engineering and Vehicle Engineering houses the following centres for research purposes:

Related course – Autonomous Vehicle Control Engineer MSc

Conclusion:

As an alternative to learning Vehicle engineering, you can also opt for Mechanical Engineering and specialise in vehicle engineering by choosing the right electives. But be aware that such a pathway will not offer in-depth knowledge in all vehicles, as the above-mentioned courses do.

Happy Learning!

If you wish to secure funded admit to universities like the ones here, all you have to do is enroll with us and complete the projects in our coursework. These projects can help you get a funded admit/scholarship when you transfer abroad.
