Wiring harness routing & packaging Rules Week 3 Challenge
P-Clamps :
P-Clamps are widely used in automobile Harnesses for several Important Reasons.
| Secure Mounting | Clamps provide a secure and stable way to mount and route wires, cables, and hoses within the vehicle. This helps to prevent movement and potential damage due to vibrations and other Mechanical stresses. |
| Protection | By holding the wires and cables in place, P-clamps protect them from abrasion, wear, and potential damage from other components. |
| Organization | They help keep the wiring harness organized, reducing clutter and making it easier to manage and maintain the wiring system. |
| Versatility | P-clamps come in various sizes and materials, making them suitable for different environments and applications within the vehicle. |
| Ease of maintenance | Are designed easily reopened and reused, which simplifies maintenances and repaires. |
This another Component of the wiring harness which should be defined before wiring harness routing. Following Important required to be defined,
- Entry Point & plane
- Base Plane
- Exit Plane
The steps are followed to define the support bracket.
Step 1 : Create Two points as entry and exit point. The points are created using between the points method.
Step 2 : The plane is created at the both entry and exit points. And also a base plane is created on the surface of the p clamps with offset of 2mm.
Step 3 : Defining the P-clamp as supporting bracket. Click entry plane, base plane and second plane.

BACKSHELL :
Backshells are the components that attach to the back of connectors often designed to guide the wires and cables that are terminated at the connector.
The backshells are Often mated with strain relief components, environmental seals, the shielding.
The backshell may be made from metal or molded using rubber or neoprene covering over the backshell of connector.
These steps are followed to define the Backshell :
Step 1 : Create a point for Back shell entry Point.
Step 2 : Axis system is created based on the created point for the back shell entry.
Step 3 : Define the part as back shell in electrical part design workbench.

CORRUGATED TUBES :
They are used to sheath the electrical wire harnesses used in cars and motorcycles, and they can protect and support the wires in different mechanical manners.
The process followed to create COT tubes and catalogue.
Create a Catalogue,
1. Add a part family in the name of Slit_COT.
2. Create COT Tubes,
- In electrical part design workbench, select Protection part

- Based on the requirement enter the inner diameter and thickness, and bend radius to 1.5 times of the inner diameter.
- The COT Tube will be created.
- Finally store the COT TUBE in the catalog.
- Repeat the iteration for different inner diameter.
