Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 5 & 6 Challenge
AIM:
Route two electrical harnesses are per the given layout and interconnect them as a single harness assembly and then ckeck for bundle continuity, bundle warnings, and then give annotations to the final harness assembly.
OBJECTIVE:
1) The objective of this project is to first route the two Harness A and Harness B as per the given harness layout.
- The electrical connector are represented by numbers in the above figure. There are 8 different types of connectors at 10 different locations.
2) Bundle continunity has to be checked for the two created harness.
3) After the two Harnesses are created, the next objective is to have them interconnected electrically.
4) Check for bundle warning in Harness A and Harness B.
5) Add annotations to all the connectors in Harness A and Harness B.
6) The final objective of this project is to convert the final harness file into IGS file format.
INTRODUCTION:
A wiring harness is an organized set of wires, terminals and connectors that run throughout the entire vehicle and transmit information and electric power, thereby playing a critical role in “connecting” a variety of components.
GEOMETRY PARAMETERS:
Firstly loaded CAD model make the piont on mating and bundle entry side. Andthen make the axis (Co-ordinate) system of the Connector connection point all in the Mechanicl Design in Part Design.
One things we want understand is Axis system was poistion or orientation of axis
1) X-Axis is orintation of locking mechanism.
2) y-Axis is normal to the another connector.
Define the Electrical connector in Electrical part design system. After declear electrical connector model turns to electric part identify by the wating tree structure. And pop up the dialog box.
Define Bundle Connection point which is terminate wire should be inserted on this side(This point defines where the harness bundle segment point will end when routed to the electrical connector) even there is popup the dialoge box for creating Bundel connection point gives the asked perspectives.
Define Connector Connection point is mating side of connector (This point defines is used for the connection of one connector to another connector) even there is popup the dialoge box for creating Connector connection point gives the asked perspectives.
PROCESS:
STEP 1:
Define all the electrical connectors geometrically and electrically and then can wiring harness.
STEP 2:
Create the harness A and haress B individually by using electrical harness workbench.
First, all the connectors are placed at their desired locatins.
And then, bundle segment are created between the connectors with branch points and branches.
HARNESS A:
HARNESS B:
STEP 3:
After Harness A and Haress B are created the next step is to check the bundle continuity.
First, we have to make sure multi-branchable is selected and then we have to go in ">Edit>Search>Advanced>
Selecting the "TRUE" option it will show all the connected bundle segment if it any missing bundle are there rerouting it. While selecting the "FALSE" option will show all the non-connected bundle segment
STEP 4:
In this step, we have to interconnect the Wiring harness A and harness B electrically. There are a few steps that have to be followed to connect the two harness electrically.
First, open product file and load the Harness A ad Harness B copy and paste method.
And then, at this stage, we can use manipulation tools found in the assembly design workbench in CATIA to connect the two wiring harness. But, one should remember that by following this process the two harnesses will not be connected electrically. To properly connect them we have to go Electrical Assembly Design workbench and use "connect electrical devices" feature as.
Once we are inside the electrical assembly design workbench we should electrically connect the male and female connectors as shown.
STEP 5:
In this step, we will be checking bundle warning in Harness A and Harness B.
Geometrical bundle warning are shown for bend radius, Bundle diameter, Vector position. If these values or inputs are incorrect then the yellow flash will appear in the tree structure next to the brachable with the problems. Depending on the route of the bundle segment we can correct the issue by addind some extra slack or by changing vector position of the segment point. In our case, we have one error as.
After correction the error by rerouting bundles.
ANNTATION:
Annotations are used to show connector functions and additional information. They are defined in Assembly Design Workbench.
We have to choose a plane on which the annotation will be placed. Here we will be choosing the front. Make sure that the geometrical bundle is active before choosig the annotation plane.
And then select "flag not with ladder" function and then click on connectors idividually. Give the necessary information to all the connectors.
CONVERTING CAD PART:
In rhis step we have to convert our Final Harness Assembly file ito IGS format. In order to do this we should follow the step.
"Mechanical Assembly workbench>Tools>Generatr CAT part from product".
In the end, we can use the "SAVE AS" feature to save the CAT part file as IGS file.
CONCLUSION:
Routing of the two electrical harnes as per the givwn layout as successfully and with create the Annotation as well as CAT part as IGS format.
