Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modelling

First, we can open the te.com site download the Deutsch DT06 – 08SA and open it in CATIA V5 software then we define the connector
definition. The following parameters are required to define any connector.

STEP:1
Geometry Parameters:- Points and coordination system (axis system).
We can work on the part design in this workbench we define point definition and then click on the point definition command.
we use this definition can finding the exact centre point of the connector. In this selection process, we choose two points and then find the
exact midpoint. We create both sides of the connector.

STEP:2
Axis System Definition used to define the coordinates system we can select the origin exact at the midpoint

The X-axis should be pointing in the direction of the locking mechanism of the clip.
Y-axis should be pointing towards the front face of the connector.
Z-axis should be pointing across the connector from left to right. Then click OK

STEP:3
Next, we jump into the Electrical Part Design workbench can we define connector definition. Then click on the command it shows
the below fig. Here asking type we can enter a single insert connector, the part number is taken default and a last number of terminals we can
enter 8 in this part design we can see and observe its an 8 terminals are there.

STEP:4
Next, we go for Bundle Connection Point Definition click on this command the window will be displayed as shown in the below fig. Here asking for some properties to define the bundle connection point. Then click Ok

STEP:5
Connector Connection Point this point is used for the connection of one connector to another connector. Then we click on this command
the below window will be displayed here asking for some important properties. In representation we can select the axis origin, contact can
select the normal to the face, coincidence we can determine the always y-axis, and orientation can select the always x-axis direction. Then
click ok then save it.

STEP:6
Then click the Device Storage command open then we can select the catalogue for a connector then open it and select the family here
shows connector then select and click ok.

TREE STRUCTURE

Next, we can download another connector from te.com and we can search in the search bar Tyco 174357-2. Then download the CAD part. Open the part in CATIA v5 then define the connector definition.

The following parameters are required to define any connection
Geometry parameters:- Points and coordinate system that is axis system. We define point definition first for both sides bundle entry point and connector connection point.

AXIS SYSTEM:-

ELECTRIC CONNECTOR DEFINITION:-

BUNDLE CONNECTION POINT:-

CONNECTOR CONNECTION POINT:-

Next, we click on the Cavity Connection Point icon which is used to define the connection of a connector to a connector clip. This only
applies to connectors which have mounting features for a connector clip. Then we can save it in the .catpart file

Next, we can download the connector clip (Tyco 85229-1) from te.com we define the point definition and create a point.

Next, we go to the Axis System Definition icon and then define the coordinates on-axis system.

Select the Cavity Definition icon from the workbench this is similar to the connector connection point only change the icon then click ok
and save.

Now go to the electrical assembly workbench and create a new product file then copy those two 3d models and past them on the newly created product file.

Insert both parts

Use the connected electrical device to connect both parts

now save them

TREE STRUCTURE

CONCLUSION:
From the above assignment, we learned how to define a connector and a cavity and how to define different electrical properties. We also learnt how to create a catalogue document and how to save the components in the catalogue document so that they can be used later.
